Chapter 254 Arios' past

(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)

Arios Orlando.

Male.

Twenty years old.

Occupation... Hero.

By the time he became aware of the world, Arios was already treated as a hero. Adults would kneel and bow their heads to the child that he was. A lavish life, almost like royalty, was promised to him, and he lacked nothing.

However, there were things he had to do to maintain such a life. He had to become strong. Sword and magic training continued every day. In the beginning, there was no rest. Day in and day out, he practiced sword and magic. This didn't change even if he got injured or sick.

The goal was to be able to fight at any time, to never die, and, above all, to become stronger. Arios was demanded to possess "power."

It was a harsh life for a child. He was given a meager hour of free time each day, but that allowed him to understand what "normal life" meant for those around him, and he realized how different his environment was.

He came to think that it wasn't so bad, understanding all this. If he became strong, he could have a luxurious life. That was undeniably attractive. Eating delicious food was enjoyable, and indulging in noble pastimes was fun, but there was something even more enjoyable.

Everyone bowed their heads to him. They gave him harsh training, but at the same time, treated him like a state guest. In times other than during training, Arios was like a king. No one defied him. Adults and children, all equally lowered their heads in his presence.

It was an irresistible pleasure. Even though he was still a child, everyone made it clear that he was in a lower position. Occasionally, there were those who flattered him. Their transparently insincere feelings were somewhat unpleasant, but it was undeniable that these individuals went to greater lengths to elevate Arios.

It was irresistible that everyone bowed down before him. It made him feel like he had conquered everything. Arios, even as a child, began to harbor such distorted thoughts. It became a part of him. The adults around him noticed it. Arios's attitude gradually became more arrogant, making it easy to notice how he viewed those around him and what kind of emotions he held.

Despite knowing all this, the adults didn't reprimand him. They didn't even offer a word of caution. They were seriously considering not interfering with his behavior. And so, Arios continued to grow with this twisted perspective.

He became increasingly convinced that he was a chosen being, a hero. He was special. Different from commoners. Different even from the nobles who held titles in name only. He was a one-of-a-kind existence, the supreme being. He started to think seriously about such things.

After reaching adulthood, he began his activities as a hero. He started to fight against monsters with his companions, Aggus, Lin, and Mina. Arios gained for the first time the existence of equals in the form of these companions. They were created for Arios's sake, but they emphasized that they were in an equal position, not bowing their heads like the people around him.

Essentially, they didn't oppose Arios's actions. However, they occasionally chimed in, which was unbearably unpleasant for Arios. Why did a hero like himself have to listen to the words of ordinary people? He thought that he should just have people around him bow down and simply listen to what he said.

At first, although he reluctantly accepted the necessity of such behavior to carry out his hero duties, he listened with a generous heart when they chimed in, even if it was annoying.

However, there are limits to everything.

They, his companions, started to voice their concerns about Arios' actions at every turn. This was evidence enough that there were issues with Arios' behavior. However, Arios remained oblivious to this fact and started to find his companions bothersome.

Nevertheless, he couldn't expel them. Even as a hero, he was still incomplete. If he had acquired the supreme power, he wouldn't need companions. But for now, he still needed them.

So, what should he do? Arios arrived at one answer. His companions irritated him. They made him angry. So, he should create a stress relief outlet.

With that thought in mind, Arios added Rain to his group.

He had no expectations of Rain as a Beast Tamer, not even as a general helper. Arios had only one demand for Rain - to serve as a lightning rod for his stress.

Afterward, days of pure enjoyment followed. Arios bossed Rain around and made him bow his head. If something unpleasant happened, he would vent his frustration on Rain.

Arios had always been twisted in personality from a young age. But now, he found pleasure in the act of "criticizing others."

His character became increasingly distorted.

One day, however, Arios grew tired of Rain. No matter what words he used or how much he bullied him under the guise of training, Rain always faced forward, unwavering and unbroken. Arios found it boring.

The perverse pleasure he had experienced when he broke his favorite toy as a child, he wanted to experience it with a human. But Rain remained unaffected and unbroken.

Arios was fed up.

He found a suitable excuse and expelled Rain from the party. If Rain was just a toy, he could catch another one. This time, he wanted someone more enjoyable to torment. After all, he was a hero. There were plenty of people who wanted to join a hero's party.

He was thinking this, but then, something unexpected happened. He collided with the expelled Rain due to an unforeseen circumstance.

He was the hero, the strongest human. There was no way he could lose to someone like a Beast Tamer.

Arios was confident of this. However...

In reality, he lost to Rain. Rain, who had formed a contract with the most powerful species, now possessed an unimaginable power. Arios was powerless and utterly defeated.

This defeat profoundly shook Arios's heart. Why wasn't Rain defeated? Why didn't Rain kneel? Why did Rain bare his fangs?

Why, why, why, why, why!!!

Arios was overwhelmed by confusion, torment, and thoughts that soon turned to hatred.

It was unacceptable for someone chosen like himself to be humiliated. Rain had committed an unforgivable sin. There was no punishment except death.

Arios, who had been celebrated as a hero, had his pride wounded for the first time in his life, and deeply so. Even more than he realized, this injury festered in his heart.

It was nothing but resentment, a petty reason: simply that his pride had been hurt. Nevertheless, Arios took a rash action and decided to kill Rain.

He resolved to make Rain regret having confronted him, to the point of death. The result was...
