Chapter 637 Little Five

(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)

“The Black Demon! This is my legendary mech!” Flint declared proudly, leveling his rifle.

It was obvious that the moment Flint saw the Ghost Captain appear, he realized that Madman would be hard-pressed to fight four opponents alone. Relying on the speed advantage of his legendary mech, he had rushed over in advance to provide support.

The outside world only knew that of the seven legendary mechs in the Shattered Star Region, four had fallen one after another amid the endless conflicts and wars.

The three that remained were in the hands of Madman, Red Dragon, and Shadow of the Dark Temple.

But no one had expected Flint to possess a fourth legendary mech. And the moment it appeared, it directly eliminated the Ghost Captain—the greatest threat to Madman!

“Flint, you bastard... you've been hiding your cards well!” Red Dragon gritted out as he stared at the black mech.

No wonder Flint had been willing to use a legendary mech to win Madman over. It turned out he had possessed two all along!

At that moment, Madman, whose period of weakness was about to begin, finally seized his only chance.

Taking advantage of everyone being stunned by that devastating shot, he quickly broke free from the encirclement. His figure flashed like lightning as he dodged several pursuing attacks before fleeing at top speed toward the main formation of his fleet.

Just as Red Dragon recovered from his shock and was about to give chase, Flint casually raised his rifle and locked onto him from afar.

Sensing the tremendous threat, Red Dragon was forced to stop and focus all his attention on defense.

It was obvious that Flint's Black Demon specialized in long-range combat. Judging from the power of that sniper shot, an ordinary mech would not have been able to withstand even a single hit. Its destructive force was downright terrifying.

If that shot had been aimed at him instead...

A bead of cold sweat slid down Red Dragon's forehead.

Thinking of the good brother he had only recently come to know, Red Dragon's expression darkened.

Brother Ghost, don't worry. I'll avenge you!

“You bastard! A sneak attack?”

At that moment, the familiar voice suddenly sounding in his ears made Red Dragon's entire body tremble.

Even Flint revealed a look of shock, his grip on the rifle visibly shaking.

The Ghost Captain? How was that possible?!

“G-Ghost Brother, you're not dead?” Red Dragon exclaimed in delight.

“Don't worry. I'll definitely outlive you.” Nie Yun rolled his eyes.

“B-But your Ghost...”

Even the cockpit had been pierced through. Judging from the melted edges around the wound, the entire cockpit should have been vaporized.

And he still wasn't dead?

What, did his cockpit grow on his forehead or something?

“Who said I was inside the Ghost?”

Nie Yun's words stunned Red Dragon.

He immediately turned toward the bridge of his flagship and pulled up the internal surveillance feeds...

Holy crap! He really was there!

“Remote-control technology. Just a trivial little trick, haha!” Nie Yun explained casually.

Red Dragon was both shocked and delighted.

You could do that?

In a battlefield where energy interference was so chaotic, the man could still remotely control his mech as if it were an extension of his own body?

Although he had no idea how Nie Yun had accomplished it, one thing was certain—it had to be advanced Mechanical Tribe technology!

However, although the substitute body had escaped disaster, the Ghost itself had undeniably suffered severe damage.

The chest was one of a mech's most important core sections. Once that area was destroyed, there was no way the mech could continue fighting.

Of course, Nie Yun could spend some time repairing it directly on the battlefield, but that would clearly exceed the technological capabilities that the Mechanical Tribe was supposed to possess...

“Boom! Boom!”

The engines at its rear belched thick black smoke. Under Nie Yun's control, the Ghost began wobbling unsteadily, appearing to struggle greatly as it withdrew from the battlefield and slowly headed toward Nie Yun's own warship...

This warship had originally been Goldfang's flagship. After undergoing “Mithrilization” modifications, it became Nie Yun's personal vessel in the Shattered Star Region.

To be on the safe side, Nie Yun had brought it along to the battlefield as well.

Although it looked like nothing more than an inconspicuous small warship—and couldn't compare in the slightest to the imposing capital ships of the Red Dragon Fleet around it—with this ship at his side, it was as if Nie Yun had brought along his own personal treasure chest.

Faced with the sudden appearance of the Black Demon and such a shameless sneak attack, Nie Yun was not the type to suffer in silence.

Since the enemy refused to play by the rules, then they couldn't blame him for dropping his trump card next...

...

Watching the Ghost stagger away with a gaping hole in its chest, Flint was shocked, yet inwardly cursed the Mechanical Tribe for being absurdly hard to kill.

However, he quickly let out a cold snort, his eyes gleaming with hostility.

“Hmph! So what if you're not dead? Whether sooner or later, it's only a matter of time!”

The moment Flint finished speaking—

Boom!

A massive steel warship roared forward, its engines spewing brilliant exhaust flames as it slowly passed above the Black Demon.

Then came a second ship.

A third.

And then more and more colossal vessels followed, like an unstoppable tide of steel, exerting an overwhelming sense of pressure.

During the time spent surrounding Madman's Berserker, the combined fleets of Black Sail and Madman had finally arrived on the battlefield!

Looking at the nearly one thousand enemy warships spreading out before them and already charging their main guns, every soldier in the Red Dragon Fleet felt their scalp go numb.

A head-on battle had never been part of their plan.

Using three hundred ships against one thousand was even more hopeless.

“You all retreat first. I'll cover the rear!” Red Dragon ordered grimly.

Although all the ships they had brought were high-speed vessels, at such close range, if nobody stayed behind to block the enemy, the opposing fast ships would easily latch onto their tail.

In other words, someone had to remain behind.

Even if the enemy fleet was vastly larger, Red Dragon was confident that the formidable defenses of the Red Dragon could buy some time.

But there was one problem.

Hidden within the enemy fleet was a legendary sniper mech.

Flint lurked in the shadows like a venomous snake, capable of delivering a fatal strike at any moment...

Although Madman had temporarily lost his combat effectiveness, the threat posed by the Black Demon was arguably even greater than that of the Berserker.

Even Red Dragon himself wasn't certain he could survive the battle.

Following his command, the Red Dragon Fleet began turning around as a whole and accelerated to full speed in retreat.

However, at that moment—

Bzzz~

A mech suddenly launched from Nie Yun's warship and rapidly flew over to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Red Dragon.

Turning his head, Red Dragon stared in shock at the black mech that had appeared beside him.

It wasn't its fearless charge against the tide that surprised him.

Rather...

This new mech looked exactly the same as the Ghost!

“Th-This is...”

“This is the Captain. When you're out and about, bringing a spare is standard procedure. Nothing worth being surprised about.”

Nie Yun answered casually.

Red Dragon was practically dumbfounded.

A spare?

You had a spare for something this high-end?

The Ghost gets destroyed and then out comes the Captain?

If your naming scheme got any longer, would there be a Spare No. 2 and Spare No. 3 as well?

Red Dragon wasn't the only one stunned.

Flint was equally bewildered.

Another one?

Was he seeing things?

However, he reacted quickly and immediately brought the Captain back into his sights.

“Hmph! I'll show you that no matter how many top-tier mechs you possess, before my rifle, anything below legendary status... is nothing but an ant!”

Hidden beneath the shadow of a warship, glowing energy patterns lit up one after another across the heavy sniper rifle held by the Black Demon.

Whoosh!

That dazzling starlight appeared once more.

The beam shot out from the Black Sail Fleet and arrived before Nie Yun in an instant.

The scene was almost identical to what had happened moments earlier.

The difference was that this time, Nie Yun had already been on guard.

The instant he detected the anomaly, he raised a hand.

A layer of black energy light immediately materialized in front of his palm.

Boom!

“What?! Impossible!”

For perhaps the first time, Flint lost his composure and shouted in disbelief.

Everyone on the battlefield was equally stunned, unable to believe what they were seeing.

Just a few centimeters in front of the Captain's palm, a translucent black crystalline shield rippled violently like water.

The shield trembled continuously, yet stubbornly kept that point of starlight outside the barrier.

Bang!

A full two seconds later, the attack finally exhausted its energy and exploded into countless sparkling fragments before dissipating.

“H-He blocked it!” Red Dragon's heart was filled with nothing but shock.

This Captain...

It actually had a crystallized shield?!

“Brother Ghost, this...” Red Dragon pointed at the mech, unable to find the words.

“That's right! Just as you've guessed, this Captain is the long-lost...” Nie Yun paused dramatically before continuing, “...the Fifth Legendary Mech of the Shattered Star Region!”

Red Dragon and Flint stared in utter shock.

The long-lost Fifth Legendary?!

Wait a second...

When exactly had they guessed that?

Hold on, let me think this through!

First Flint suddenly revealed the Fourth Legendary, which had supposedly been lost for countless years.

Now this guy casually produced a Fifth Legendary...

Somehow, it didn't even seem that unreasonable anymore?

Looking at the crowd, who had been thoroughly led around by the nose, Nie Yun revealed a mysterious smile.

Heh. If I weren't worried you wouldn't believe it, forget Number Five—I could even produce Number Six and Number Seven to complete the set.
