Super Mothership
“Lord Spartacus, please don’t act impulsively!” the attendant behind him said anxiously.
A War God Death Duel is only allowed when a lower-ranked warrior initiates a challenge against a higher-ranked warrior. Although it gives the lower-ranked warrior a sliver of hope to overturn their fate, if they fail, the challenger will become the slave of the challenged. Their life and death will be entirely in the other’s hands.
Spartacus’s heavily injured body from earlier already proved the huge gap in strength between the two. Obviously, no one present—not even Spartacus’s own attendants—believed he had any chance.
“My mind is made up!” Spartacus completely ignored everyone’s attempts to dissuade him. He directly operated the personal terminal on his forearm and sent a War God Death Duel application to Morsy.
The War God Death Duel had a complete formal process. Not only must the duel be publicly witnessed, but it also required a warrior of even higher rank to serve as the official arbiter.
…
“You’re the one who wants to challenge Morsy and engage in a War God Death Duel?”
On the wide arena platform, a Lionian warrior wearing a silver combat suit looked at Spartacus with surprise.
Even just standing there, his powerful aura created a suffocating pressure that enveloped everyone around him.
If Bronze-Rank warriors were the core military force of the Wolf subordinate civilization, then Silver-Rank warriors were unquestionably the upper echelon of their combat strength—few in number and rarely seen even on the front lines.
“Yes, Honored Centurion!” Spartacus replied respectfully.
“You should know that even within the Bronze Rank, a lower-tier warrior is two enhancements weaker than a higher-tier warrior. Even so, you still wish to challenge him?” the Silver-Rank warrior—referred to as Centurion—reminded him seriously.
In the Wolf civilization, a warrior’s rank was not only determined by military merit; the bodily enhancements granted during each promotion were also a crucial factor.
With two ranks of difference, their nerve reaction speed, physical strength, and bodily coordination differed massively.
“I have a reason that leaves me no choice. Please serve as our arbiter!” Spartacus said firmly.
“Hmph! Centurion, if someone wants to die, I’m more than happy to send him on his way. Please arbitrate for us!” Morsy said with a cold grin from the other side.
Seeing the determination in Spartacus’s eyes, the Centurion said nothing more. He simply gave Spartacus a look—as if staring at a dead man—then announced to the nearly hundred people below that the War God Death Duel was now officially in effect.
“A lower-tier warrior challenging a higher-tier one? Is he insane?”
“Cross-tier challenges have low success rates, but there have been cases. It’s just… crossing two tiers…”
“There are precedents, but only two or three lucky ones ever succeeded. How confident is this guy?”
“Morsy, huh? Even among higher-tier warriors, he’s not weak. As for this Spartacus… I’ve never heard of him.”
“He’s just a newcomer who recently became a Bronze-Rank warrior. Of course you haven’t heard of him.”
“A rookie? Hah! Doesn’t even know how high the sky is.”
“…”
Different voices rose among the crowd of Bronze-Rank warriors watching the spectacle, most mocking Spartacus for overestimating himself.
Their gazes varied, but every one of them was filled with cold indifference. Even witnessing their own kind engage in a life-and-death duel stirred no emotion in them—it was as familiar to them as breathing.
Spartacus ignored all outside noise. Feeling the strange changes occurring within his bones and muscles, he remained silent for a moment before walking directly toward an open suit of metal armor.
With a series of metallic clicks, a small powered exosuit—similar in appearance to a Bronze mech—automatically equipped itself onto him.
Clenching his fist, Spartacus lifted his gaze toward the other exosuit approaching from the opposite side, fully equipped and walking toward him.
A Death Duel wasn’t simply a barbaric fistfight or a crude cold-weapon clash.
The Wolf civilization valued personal combat strength, but not in the primitive, brute-force sense. What they valued most was an individual’s ability to wield technological weaponry.
They sought to fuse a warrior’s personal abilities with advanced technology, maximizing the power a human could exert by harnessing weapon systems. Technology was the amplifier that allowed them to unleash extraordinary combat power.
Humanoid mechs were undoubtedly one of the weapons most compatible with the human body.
These duel-exclusive small powered exosuits were modeled after Bronze mechs, with over 80% similarity in combat mode and control systems, designed for highly accurate combat simulation. However, their weapons and armor were weakened miniature versions.
The two exosuits slowly lifted off the ground. With a buzz, a pair of crescent-shaped energy armblades extended from each of their arms.
“The Death Duel begins!”
As the Centurion’s voice fell, both exosuits shot toward each other at the same instant—
…
On the other side of the wormhole, beyond the distant stars.
“Up, down, left, right, B-A-B-A…”
“Lord Arthas, the fleet’s pre-battle preparations are alrea—huh?”
Catherine, who had come to report, froze the moment she saw the scene inside the room.
“Y-You… what… are you doing?”
“Oh, got bored, so I’m playing a little game.” Nie Yun replied casually without even turning his head, his attention still fixed on the screen in front of him.
A… a little game?!
Catherine felt the corner of her eye twitch uncontrollably.
“Didn’t you say you were going to watch a drama? Why are you playing a game now?”
“Oh, actually this is an interactive tragic romance drama. You don’t just watch it—there are fun interactive segments too.
Look, for example, this little game is a scene where the male lead bravely challenges an evil minor villain to a duel in order to save the heroine. If the challenge succeeds, the male lead can rescue the woman he loves…”
A tragic romance? With interaction?
Entertainment shows nowadays are this creative?
Catherine suddenly felt her curiosity flare up, completely forgetting about her original purpose. She walked forward and looked at the screen.
Uh… the pixels are so low…
Two crude humanoid figures made of dozens of chunky pixels were engaged in an intense mecha-style fight, trading blows back and forth. Two health bars sat at the top of the screen.
Hey hey, even if it’s not a fully immersive panoramic display, at least give me 8K resolution?!
Is the creator this obsessed with retro style?
This is almost as old as the ancient game consoles in the Gemini Civilization’s prehistoric museum…
But Catherine was instantly drawn in by the intensity of the fight. Although the pixel quality was low, the details of the mecha combat felt surprisingly realistic—full of actual combat depth.
With her enhanced vision from the “vampire serum,” Catherine quickly noticed something unusual about the game.
Surprisingly, the game was semi-automatic. The two pixel figures fought on their own most of the time, and only when Nie Yun made inputs would the blue character on the left perform specific combat moves.
Clearly, the blue character’s base stats were slightly weaker than the red one’s, but with several perfectly timed interventions from Nie Yun, the blue character had narrowly escaped death multiple times. Their HP bars were now decreasing at almost the same pace…
Without realizing it, Catherine found herself engrossed. As both health bars dwindled and the outcome approached, she even felt a slight tension.
“Right… if the challenge in this little game fails, what happens to the plot afterwards?” Catherine suddenly asked curiously.
“Fail? Hmm… I actually haven’t thought about that.”
Nie Yun paused, touched his chin, and in 0.3 seconds, instantly created an alternate script.
“Based on my prediction, if the challenge succeeds, the tragic romance will naturally shift toward a love story. But if the challenge fails and the plot branches… the heroine is probably doomed!
Then the male lead will definitely go dark, and after some persuasion from the ‘hidden mastermind,’ he’ll probably start having thoughts about destroying the world… Yeah, that would definitely turn into a disaster film…”
“Uh…”
For some reason… she felt that this director… was way too capricious…
