The beast tamer exiled from the hero’s party and the cat eared girl from the strongest race meet
To test out how well Kusanagi and Aegis handle, I decided to have a mock battle with Kanade and Iris.
I had to check if Kusanagi and Aegis functioned as intended.
And there was one more thing—
I’d been harboring a small concern…
To confirm it, I deliberately chose to face the two of them in this mock battle.
“Rain, are you really sure about going up against the two of us? Wouldn’t it be better if it were just one of us?”
“I can’t say for sure that it’s fine… but there’s something I’ve been thinking about. And the best way to test it is with the help of you and Iris.”
“Hmm… but still…”
“Well, it can’t be helped, can it? If you don’t mind me, I shall assist you.”
“You’re not worried, Iris?”
“I am worried, but Lord Rain is… quite stubborn, despite appearances. I doubt he would go back on his word so easily.”
“Ugh… yeah, that’s true. Rain really is super stubborn.”
“Indeed. I’ve rarely seen anyone as stubborn as him. But that’s also part of his charm.”
“Yeah, yeah. In other words, it means he stays true to himself. That kind of thing is… umm… nya~… kinda cool.”
“Fufu, seeing you blush like that is adorable, Kanade.”
…We’re getting off topic, aren’t we?
“Anyway… I’m counting on you two.”
“Aye aye, nya~!”
“Understood.”
Kanade and Iris replied energetically.
“Rain, if it’s against Kanade, you can go all out and it won’t be a problem.”
“Yeah, Kanade’s tough, after all.”
“She’d probably laugh it off even if she got hit by Sora’s magic.”
“S-Strong…”
“Hey! Isn’t your impression of me kinda weird?!”
Everyone was gathered in the yard, leisurely watching the mock battle.
Lately, they must have been starved for entertainment, because everyone was here.
“Do your best, Rain. I’ll pick up your bones if it comes to that.”
“Isn’t that… kind of a bad thing to say~?”
“P-Please do your best! A-Although… if someone like me cheers for you, it might just bring bad luck…!?”
“Onf! On on!”
It ended up being a strangely lively mock battle…
But it was fun, in its own way.
Whenever I’m with everyone, I always feel warm inside and can’t help but smile.
“Alright. Let’s get started.”
“Got it!”
“Fufu, here I come.”
And so, the mock battle began.
“Unyaa!”
Kanade came charging in first.
I tried to precisely read the trajectory of her attack—
“!?”
And noticed a fireball flying, hidden in Kanade’s shadow.
I leapt sideways just in time.
Kanade’s charge was just a decoy.
The real plan was to use her body as cover and land a direct hit with Iris’s fireball.
These two… have pretty good coordination.
Can’t underestimate them.
“My turn!”
Wielding the double saber—Kusanagi—I slashed at Kanade.
Of course, the blades were wrapped in cloth.
First, I struck with one edge—
As soon as she dodged, I reversed it and brought the opposite blade down.
“Unya!?”
Surprised by the immediate second strike, Kanade jumped back to put some distance between us.
“Hmm?”
This was my first time using a double saber…
But it didn’t feel bad at all.
It’s hard to handle, but allows for continuous, unpredictable attacks, letting me fight in a trickier way than with Kamui.
But Kusanagi’s true power starts here.
It’s not just a double saber—
“Break!”
A line of light ran down the double saber—
And it split into twelve small blades that flew into the air.
“Nyandesto!?”
The small blades flew as if they each had a will of their own.
Of course, I was the one controlling them.
Apparently, the rare orichalcum doesn’t just amplify magic power—it also functions like a receiver.
By channeling magic into it, I can control them remotely.
“That said…”
Controlling twelve small blades at once is quite a challenge.
My attention gets divided, and I can’t move myself very well.
“Then for now, I’ll keep the control simple…”
I secretly drew the dagger I’d been keeping hidden… Kamui.
It’s a weapon I’m deeply attached to, so there was just no way I could simply say goodbye to it just because it broke…
So I insisted and got Gantz to repair it for me.
Its performance hasn’t changed from before, so I still can’t borrow everyone’s power during an Awakening.
But for an ordinary fight, there’s no problem.
Also, I had him add a little hidden feature.
“Kanade-san, I’ll cover you!”
“Roger that!”
Dodging the twelve flying blades of the double saber—what I’d named the Second Form—Iris and Kanade showed off an improvised combination.
Iris fired a fireball timed perfectly to Kanade’s charge.
Her control was nothing short of precise.
The fireball raced forward alongside Kanade, coming right at me.
I knocked down several of the fireballs with the disassembled double saber—Second Form.
But since my control was still shaky, a few slipped through.
“Nyandafull Punch!”
Yelling some incomprehensible special move name, Kanade threw a straight right punch.
It was just a plain punch.
“Come on!”
“Eh!?”
I gathered the Kusanagi blades of Second Mode into one place, spreading them out like a shield.
I caught Kanade’s fist with it.
In that moment, I slipped into her guard and pressed Kamui against her throat.
“Match over.”
“Nyaaah—I lost!?”
Kanade groaned in frustration, while everyone watching the mock battle clapped for us.
“Lord Rain’s new weapon is outrageously tricky. Not just an ordinary double saber—but to think it could split apart and be controlled freely.”
“Yeah, yeah, that! I was so shocked. And on top of that, it can even be used as a shield.”
“In normal mode it’s the First Form. The disassembled state is the Second Form. And… there’s also a special Third Form. But… I don’t think I can use it yet. Since controlling Second Form is still tough, I need to perfect that first.”
“Nyaa~d Form?”
“And what exactly is that?”
“Hmm… I guess it’s something like powering up Kamui’s functions even more? For now, though… it’s a secret.”
