Super Mothership
When Code Name launched an electronic attack on the Gemini, Nie Yun wasn’t idle either.
In addition to modifying the Immortals with mechanical enhancements, he was also learning how to use psychic power from them.
Psychic power, at its core, is a kind of “consciousness wave” with a specific frequency.
According to the wave-particle duality of matter, all microscopic matter has wave properties, and macroscopic matter is made of microscopic matter. The application of consciousness waves is essentially using one’s own “consciousness wave” to interfere with “material waves.”
The Immortals’ “telekinesis” is one such effect, achieved by tuning their consciousness wave to a special frequency.
Beyond that, consciousness waves can interfere with the minds of other intelligent beings. The Immortals’ telepathy and mental attacks fall under this category.
Different frequencies of consciousness waves can produce various effects, much like supernatural abilities.
According to the Immortals, all living beings’ consciousness waves can affect the material world to some extent. However, most intelligent creatures have consciousness waves that are too weak, or they can’t find the right frequency to use this innate ability—so they simply can’t interfere with matter.
If the Immortals weren’t a super-evolved plant species with a unique life form—often spending their time in meditation once they were full—they likely wouldn’t have awakened this mysterious power either.
Even so, after thousands of years, the Immortals were only able to discover three such abilities through their own exploration.
Of course, Nie Yun took what they said with a grain of salt. The example of the Kara Star showed clearly that this guy wasn’t exactly honest. Keeping some secrets to oneself isn’t something unique to Earthlings, after all.
You can’t become a master overnight. Nie Yun had all the time in the world to slowly tame this mischievous baobab tree…
Compared to interfering with matter, influencing the mind using consciousness waves is much easier.
According to the Immortals, if someone’s consciousness waves are strong, they naturally radiate a powerful presence, making others unconsciously center around them. This is often seen as charisma, but it’s actually a concrete example of consciousness wave influence.
In general, highly intelligent people tend to have stronger consciousness waves. Besides these innate traits, intense external experiences can also enhance a being’s consciousness waves.
For example, a special forces soldier who lives constantly on the edge of life and death will have much stronger consciousness waves than the average person.
In other words, consciousness waves are not only influenced by innate factors—they can also be strengthened through postnatal cultivation.
As for other methods of enhancing consciousness waves and increasing the strength of the “soul,” the Immortals said they weren’t sure. But Nie Yun could guess even with his toes that the “Water of Life” definitely had an effect!
These were the characteristics of consciousness waves that Nie Yun summarized from the Immortals’ descriptions. But in the Immortals’ view, it could all be summed up with phrases like “your evolutionary level is too low,” or “your soul power is too weak”—full of a sense of racial superiority...
Being a mountain overlord for too long inevitably leads to the illusion that one is the best in the world. Nie Yun completely understood this mentality.
That’s why it only took him less than three days to master the basic skills of telepathy and telekinesis, perfectly demonstrating what it truly means to be a super-species!
This learning speed naturally left the Immortals utterly stunned. Sure, it’s easier to learn established skills than to figure them out blindly like the Immortals once did.
But such monstrous speed made them feel like their thousands of years of effort had all gone to waste...
Had they been a frog in a well this whole time?
Are all these foreign super-evolved species this insane?!
Somewhat shaken in its tree-born beliefs, the Immortal didn’t know that Nie Yun’s mechanical bugs functioned as the ultimate “intelligence amplifier.” Any learning task with an existing answer was basically no challenge for Nie Yun.
If he didn’t instantly grasp something, that was him showing you respect!
This also showed how difficult these somewhat “idealist” mental skills were to learn. Without the help of a super brain, Nie Yun would probably have had to train for years before mastering them.
As for the most powerful skill—mental shock—it carried unknown risks to one’s own consciousness. Since Nie Yun didn’t fully trust the Immortal, he only recorded the method but had no intention of experimenting on himself.
As a brand-new skill tree, it had to be tested and popularized. Thus, a psychic training program was born. The three subordinates closest to Nie Yun became the first students in this experimental training class.
After learning the basics of consciousness waves, Nie Yun could now sense the strength of a person’s “soul.” The reason he chose those three was, of course, because he had already evaluated their “potential.”
Whether it was due to the constant abuse they endured from Nie Yun that toughened their minds, or long-term effects from their brain chips, their consciousness waves turned out to be surprisingly decent.
They weren’t once-in-a-century prodigies, but definitely stood out as one-in-ten-thousand talents—barely meeting the minimum learning requirements set by the Immortals.
Nie Yun simply took a “let’s try it and see” approach, letting the three of them experiment first. And if the test failed... well! No problem—he still had a bunch of hobbits waiting in line...
Just looking at those old scientists bustling around energetically all day—it’s clear their consciousness waves can’t be weak!
…
With a chance to step into such a magical new world, the three subordinates naturally didn’t say no. After all, doesn’t everyone have a superhero dream deep down?
Okay, maybe they wouldn’t dare dream of wiping out the Earth with a wave of the hand, but if just by lifting a finger all the stuff around them—pots, pans, dishes—went flying? That kind of flair? Off the charts!
If they’d had this kind of skill to impress girls back then, would they still be lonely single dogs today?
Their eyes burned with excitement as they waited for Nie Yun to “pass on the technique.”
But Nie Yun just casually flicked his hand and whoosh—sent a skill data package straight to their brain chips. Then he left behind a single sentence: “Study hard!” and floated off…
Come on! He’s still basically an elementary school student—being a teacher is way out of character, okay?
Not to mention all three of them are burly dudes—oh wait, one of them does look like a cute young boy, but even if he looks adorable, he’s not a loli, alright?
Watching Nie Yun walk away, the third guy scratched his head. “Uh… even in the interstellar age, skill manuals for supernatural powers can be digital?”
The other two nodded in agreement. “At least print it as a traditional bound scroll to add some mystery!”
This digital version? Give it to an average person and you couldn’t even sell it for ten bucks!
