The beast tamer exiled from the hero’s party and the cat eared girl from the strongest race meet
Chapter 405: Accelerating...
(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)
"Unyaa... this is pretty tough, huh?"
"Yeah, it might be."
Kanade and Chiffon, who were imprisoned, could feel the danger of their situation.
They had no idea what was happening outside. Just a moment ago, Elfin had appeared and delivered some shocking news:
Rain had secretly stationed allies outside.
Those allies had abducted Finia.
This was nothing short of an insult to the Phoenix Tribe, and as such, they would take firm action in retaliation.
It was a bolt out of the blue for Kanade and Chiffon, leaving them utterly stunned.
"Who could Rain’s other human allies be?"
"Unyaan... I’ve got a bad feeling. Could it be Monica again?"
"Monica?"
"Oh, Chiffon doesn’t know, does she? Well, you see..."
Kanade began sharing information about Monica with Chiffon.
"A knight like that exists...? No, wait—a former knight? Our ties with the royal capital have only deepened recently, but I’ve never heard of a knight with powers of illusion."
"Maybe she was hiding it. That one seems to have a seriously nasty personality."
"Maybe... after we resolve this, we should report it to the king."
"If we can resolve it..."
The number of Phoenix Tribe guards had doubled.
They occasionally shot harsh glares their way, and comments like "They should just be executed already" could be heard.
It didn’t feel like a peaceful resolution was anywhere in sight.
Kanade and Chiffon were both breaking into a cold sweat.
"Kanade... Chiffon!"
"Ah, Nina! And Rifa too."
Nina and Rifa arrived, and Kanade beamed at them.
But her smile froze when she saw that Shigure and Elfin were with them as well.
Elfin directed a glare full of hostility at Chiffon and then turned to Kanade with a look of disappointment.
"Did you know about this?"
"Nyan? About what?"
"That this human had stationed allies here and plotted to kidnap my daughter."
"Rain wouldn’t do something like that! There must be some mistake."
"I saw the crime with my own eyes. There’s no mistake."
"But, but, there was just another human there, right? How can you be sure they’re connected to Rain?"
"Isn’t it proof enough that my daughter disappeared with those humans? Foolish and contemptible as they are, humans probably had their sights set on Finia from the start."
"Um..."
Kanade wanted to loudly deny it.
Rain wouldn’t do such a thing—it had to be a misunderstanding.
But when she met Elfin’s eyes, she found herself unable to speak.
Elfin had already decided Rain was the culprit, fueled by anger toward humans for their foolish acts and by the pain of losing her daughter.
Kanade instinctively realized that no words would reach her now.
Unless Rain was brought here, or unless Finia herself was found, Elfin wouldn’t listen.
With that in mind, Kanade remained silent, unable to deny the accusation.
"You two will also go into the cell."
Nina and Rifa were also imprisoned.
Seeing this, Shigure tried to offer a calm suggestion.
"Now, Elfin, those kids are the strongest species, you know. Locking up your own kind is..."
"They were brought here by that human, so the chance of them being enemies is high. I can’t allow enemies to roam freely."
"Urgh... Stubborn as ever."
Elfin’s unwavering tone made Shigure give up on trying to persuade her.
"Um..."
Chiffon hesitantly spoke up.
"Just as Shigure said, Kanade, Nina, and Rifa are the strongest species. Could you let them out? I’m fine staying in the cell."
"What are you plotting?"
"Eh?"
Chiffon had spoken purely out of concern for Kanade and the others.
But Elfin didn’t see it that way.
"For a human to say such a thing is impossible. What’s your ulterior motive? Do you really think I’d believe such nonsense and let myself be deceived?"
"I-I’m not plotting anything. I just... care about Kanade and the others..."
"Hmph."
Elfin sneered at Chiffon, who was desperately trying to explain.
"You think that showing such sincerity will make me believe you? That I’ll be moved by sentimentality? How naive. I’ll never trust a human again. Foolish, selfish, and incapable of thinking about anyone but themselves—they’re nothing but enemies."
Elfin’s words were filled with deep hostility toward humans—no, more than that.
It was hatred.
And it wasn’t just Elfin.
The Phoenix Tribe guards watching the cell exuded the same emotions.
"This..."
This could be bad... Chiffon muttered in her heart.
If they had been able to prove their strength during the race, they might have been acknowledged.
However, the unexpected interference only worsened the situation.
Far from gaining acceptance, they had become the target of maximum hostility.
Even though they hadn’t plotted anything, the unanticipated intruder threw everything into chaos.
Suspicion bred more suspicion, and hostility invited further hostility.
Like tangled threads, the situation had become nearly impossible to unravel.
What should they do?
Chiffon desperately tried to think, but no solution came to mind.
A sense of hopelessness began creeping into her heart.
“It’ll be fine.”
But Kanade hadn’t given up.
Seeing Chiffon’s dark expression, Kanade flashed a reassuring smile.
“Do you have a plan, Kanade?”
“Nope, not a single one. I don’t know what to do either.”
“Then...”
“But Rain will handle it.”
There was a strong conviction in Kanade’s voice as she spoke.
“Rain will definitely figure something out.”
“Mm... Rain is... reliable.”
“We can trust Rain.”
Nina and Rifa seemed to share the same opinion, fully trusting their master without any doubt.
This bond of trust... Perhaps that was the true source of their strength.
With them... and with Rain, they might just be able to overcome this.
That’s what Chiffon began to think.
“So, what do you plan to do now?”
“Let me see...”
In response to Shigure’s question, Elfin took a moment to think.
And then—
“...Let’s conduct a hunt.”
She proposed a plan that would only escalate the situation further.
TL Note- Hunt?
