Chapter 8-The "curse" that resides in the life of the demons

(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)

"――There is a predetermined 'source' in life.

For example, if one is born with the source of 'hope,' their life will be filled with dreams. These blessings, often bestowed by gods, seemed to be a form of happiness.

However, at some point, the sources begin to distort.

The symbolic existence of this distortion was known as the demon tribe.

The only difference between them and humans might be the possession of immense magical power. But that is merely a superficial result. There were other reasons for their distortion and hostility towards others.

"Could it be related to the 'source'...?"

"Yes, indeed. The gods began their selection at some point."

"...Selection?"

Keane tilted his head at the words of the demon tribe within Escalite.

He could understand the reasoning behind the existence of 'sources' for humans and demons. However, he couldn't grasp the connection between that and the selection the gods supposedly initiated.

In response to his inquiry, the demon girl began to answer quietly.

"The gods began mixing curses, which seemed to be nothing but malice towards those who possess a spirit that opposes them, into the originally blessed 'sources.' For individuals who harbor such spirit, they implanted 'destruction' or 'self-destruction' as sources, which are far from happiness no matter how they struggle."

"That's...!"

"Of course, it might be beyond your understanding, humans. Even for me, this is a tale that has been passed down as nothing more than a dubious story from ancient times."

"............"

The demon within Escalite clenched her fist and continued.

"Even so, I understand. Intuitively, the 'inescapable burden' inside oneself. No matter how much you try to avoid it, it stands right in front of you...!"

Her lips were bitten, and blood trickled down – her appearance was genuinely intense.

Such an expression couldn't be acted out or created on a whim. That's why Keane understood that what she was saying was likely close to the truth. He couldn't fully comprehend it, but he decided to start by organizing the situation.

So the elven youth inquired after some thought.

"I see, I understand your existence... But what if, assuming all of this is true, why would the gods do such a thing?"

"...I don't know. I have only heard about it since ancient times."

"What do you mean by that...?"

As Keane continued to ask, the demon took a breath and spoke.

"All the causes lie in the Human-Demon War..."――

It was a grand tale.

A history of sorrowful battles between humans and demons spanning thousands of years.
