Chapter 186-Interrogation

(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)

In the royal capital  of Rollreeze  located in the Central Continent,

Stands the royal castle at the heart of the prosperous city.

Within the audience chamber, there appeared the figure of King Argus Van Rollreeze, who rules over the three continents: Central, South, and East.

Despite being over 60 years old, the aura of dominance surrounding him showed no signs of waning.

With sharp eyes, he looked down upon his subordinates from his throne.

Before Argus, there stood the figures of Arios and his companions.

Arios, Agas, Leen, and Mina—they were called the Hero Party and were supposed to be praised by the people. Yet, they were now groveling and sweating profusely.

"Arios," spoke Argus with a deep voice, causing Arios's body to tremble involuntarily.

"Do you understand why you have been summoned here?"

"W-Well..."

"You unleashed a demon and attempted to kill the adventurers who witnessed it. Furthermore, you tried to take credit for it by joining forces with the demon. Do you have something to say?"

"...I have not done such a thing."

Even under Argus's stern gaze, Arios refused to admit his wrongdoing.

"Oh...? I've received petitions from the local villagers. What about those?"

"I did save the villagers, but I did not do anything to put them in distress. Could it be that they are confused out of fear?"

"And what about the reports from the guild?"

"I have no idea. It must be a mistake."

"So, you claim you are not at fault?"

"Yes."

Arios firmly answered, displaying an attitude that indicated he had no trace of guilt.

Seeing Arios in such a manner, the attendants around the king began to feel uncertain.

Could it be that the guild's reports were incorrect?

Were the villagers perhaps mistaken?

After all, Arios was a hero.

They had come to think in such a way, treating the concept of a "hero" with sanctity.

...However, Argus remained undeterred.

"You fool!!!"

"Wha-?"

Like the roar of thunder, Argus's angry voice resounded, causing Arios's face to stiffen.

Aggus and the others also trembled.

Argus was the king.

He was not a foolish ruler who could be manipulated by someone else. He firmly stood on his own feet as a wise king.

Could anyone deceive the eyes of such a king?

The answer was no—it was impossible.

"You thought such lies would fool me!?"

"However, this is the truth, not a lie..."

"Are you attempting to pile up more lies?"

Argus's mood rapidly deteriorated.

Sensing this, Arios's complexion also turned pale.

He desperately defended himself, but...

Unaware that it was having the opposite effect, Argus's patience reached its lowest point.

"...That's enough."

With a weary expression, Argus waved his hand.

"It seems we cannot have a proper conversation now. First, cool your head. Knights, take Arios and his companions to the dungeon."

"What!?"

Lock up a hero like himself?

Hearing those inconceivable words, Arios was speechless.

However, Argus was dead serious.

And the knights, acting upon his orders, were also serious.

They approached Arios's group and restrained them from both sides.

"Come this way."

"Damn it...! Why would I be thrown in a dungeon? I am a hero! Yet, why am I...?"

"Don't worry, I'll release you by tomorrow. Until then, cool your head and reflect on your actions."

"My king, is this..."

"Silence. I don't want to hear another word from you today. I don't even want to see your face. Face your own sins in the dungeon."

"Tch."

Arios's face contorted in anger, frustration, and humiliation—various emotions surfaced.

It would be easy for him to shake off the knights at this moment.

Even though they were trained knights, they could not stand against a hero.

However, if he were to do such a thing in front of the king, it would be akin to rebellion.

No matter how much of a hero he was, there was a line he must not cross.

He would turn from a hero into a traitor.

Understanding this, Arios gritted his teeth but obediently allowed the knights to escort him, all the while maintaining his defiant gaze fixed on Argus.

"Sigh..."

As Arios and his group vanished, Argus leaned heavily against his throne.

An audible sigh escaped his lips.

"To think they would do something like that..."

Contemplating the actions of Arios and his companions, Argus wore a bitter expression.

Although he had a prideful and inconsiderate side...

He never expected them to commit such foolish acts.

Argus pondered.

What Arios had done was by no means forgivable.

In normal circumstances, he should be judged as a criminal and imprisoned.

However, Arios was a "hero."

If Arios were to disappear, humanity would lose its means to counter the Demon King.

Although the Demon King was currently in a dormant phase...

He would eventually resume full-scale activities and pose a threat to humanity.

If there were no hero when that time came, humanity would face extinction.

Arios was a necessary existence.

However, that didn't mean he could act as he pleased.

While minor issues could be overlooked...

This time, he clearly went too far.

If only he would reflect on his actions, but judging from his recent attitude, it seemed unlikely to expect that.

What should be done?

Argus pondered.

"I want to somehow gain control over Arios... Well, tempting him with rewards? No... That would only further his arrogance. If giving him free rein until now was a mistake... Perhaps assigning a watchdog would be appropriate. With surveillance, I could exert some control..."

Mumbling to himself, Argus considered the future course of action.

"Yes... Let's start with that. With a watchful eye, he wouldn't dare to do something foolish. Let's observe for a while... If he returns to the righteous path, then all is well. But if not... we should consider employing our contingency plan."

TL Note- The king enters the plot, Will Rain gain an ally or a possible enemy, find out in the next episode of dragon ball....*cough*.... Beast tamer.
