Super Mothership
On the other side, the Twin Dragons faction.
“Boss, the Black Sails just captured another one of our sub-bases. And yesterday, three more of our sister units were ambushed by the Madman’s forces.
They’re attacking our people everywhere now. If this keeps going, I’m afraid morale among the troops is going to collapse,” one subordinate said anxiously.
“Didn’t I already tell you all to endure it for now and avoid direct confrontation with the enemy?” Messiah frowned slightly.
“We want to avoid them, but the Madman’s legendary mech is just too fast. None of us can stop him…”
“I understand. You may leave. Tell everyone to pull back and consolidate our forces. In time, I’ll make them pay for this.”
Once the subordinate left, the calm expression on Messiah’s face finally gave way to exhaustion.
Recently, there had simply been too much bad news…
It wasn’t just the threat posed by the Madman’s legendary mech. Their overall military strength was also far inferior to Black Sails’, forcing them into a completely defensive and extremely passive position.
“Messiah!”
Turning around, Messiah saw Red Dragon standing at the doorway, his face somewhat pale.
“What are you doing here? How are your injuries?”
“I just got out of the medical pod. Your girls are pretty skilled — didn’t lose any parts.” Red Dragon forced out a smile.
Messiah shot him a flirtatious glance. “Oh? See someone you like? I can send her to your room later.”
“Heh…” Red Dragon laughed awkwardly, wrapping an arm around her slender waist, his eyes filled with the tenderness of a hardened warrior.
“The situation looks bad, doesn’t it?”
“It does. But compared to the dangers we faced when we barely escaped to the Shattered Star Region all those years ago, this is nothing.” Messiah smiled indifferently.
“Yeah… I’m still the same as before, always causing trouble for you, Captain, while you clean up after me every time… In the blink of an eye, more than thirty years have passed…” A trace of nostalgia surfaced in Red Dragon’s eyes.
But it was quickly replaced by resolve.
“My body’s mostly recovered now. I can help hold the Madman back.”
“Don’t be ridiculous. The Red Dragon suffered severe energy overload in the last battle, and its core was damaged. It can no longer activate Energy Crystallization. What exactly are you planning to use to hold him back?” Messiah shook her head.
The most important ability of a legendary mech was Energy Crystallization, and that ability relied entirely on the mech’s core.
Once the core was damaged, unless it was sent to the Imperial Royal Family, there was basically no way to repair it.
In other words, the mech was effectively — scrap metal.
“Even without Energy Crystallization, I can still—”
“Go die?” Messiah cut him off harshly before he could finish.
Red Dragon opened his mouth, then finally let out a powerless sigh.
“Have you contacted Shadow and Karon? Black Sails and the Madman have joined forces, and those two are really just going to sit there?”
“Hmph! Those two bastards are hiding outside and refusing to show themselves. They’re obviously planning to sit back and watch the tigers fight. Counting on them is less reliable than counting on money itself.”
“Then… if there’s really no other way… what about the Valkyrie…” Red Dragon hesitated.
“No!” Messiah answered decisively. “As long as we don’t expose it, we still have a sliver of hope. But once it’s exposed, we’re dead for sure. Unless we reach the absolute final moment, it must never be deployed!”
“Then are we just supposed to sit here and wait for death?”
Just as the two were at a complete loss, Red Dragon’s communicator suddenly rang.
When the figure on the other end of the call appeared before them, both Red Dragon and Messiah froze at the same time.
“Ghost Captain?”
“Long time no see, Lord Red Dragon!” Nie Yun’s avatar greeted them with a smiling expression.
Back at the arena, Red Dragon had given Nie Yun his contact information, which conveniently provided Nie Yun with a “diplomatic channel.”
“You’re looking for me… for what exactly?” Red Dragon asked suspiciously.
At a time like this, could he be here to kick them while they were down?
“I’m here to join you,” Nie Yun said bluntly.
Red Dragon: “……”
What? Did I hear that right? Join us?
Back when I was still one of the Seven Pirate Lords, I couldn’t even persuade you to join. Now my pirate crew’s basically gone, and you want to talk about joining us?
Are you sure you’re not trying to recruit me instead?
He exchanged a glance with Messiah, both of them filled with confusion.
“You’re not joking?”
“Of course. I’m already here. My ship is parked right outside your base, so could you open the gate for me?”
Red Dragon was even more dumbfounded now. They hadn’t even finished negotiating yet, and this guy had already shown up in person? This level of sincerity… was a bit excessive, wasn’t it?
…
Fifteen minutes later.
Nie Yun discreetly swept his gaze across the two people sitting opposite him.
Distance between them… visually estimated at no more than ten centimeters! As expected, there was definitely something going on between them!
“I don’t like beating around the bush. Ghost, what exactly is your purpose in coming here?” Red Dragon asked directly.
Anyone with eyes could tell the current situation — the Twin Dragons were barely hanging on.
Even if someone truly wanted to place a bet and join a faction, Black Sails clearly had much better odds of winning. For the mysterious Ghost Captain to choose them instead was highly suspicious.
Although they desperately hoped for a powerhouse like Nie Yun to join them and reverse their current disadvantage…
Well, even if a pie falls from the sky, you still have to break it open first to check whether it’s filled with something suspicious.
“I already said it. I’m here to join you,” Nie Yun replied seriously.
“Why? Don’t tell me you actually think we’ll win.” Red Dragon stared at him.
“Of course not. I just want to fight the Madman.”
Twin Dragons: “???”
“In literature, there’s no such thing as first place. But in martial prowess, there can only be one strongest. Unfortunately, right now, I’m the second strongest.
To be honest, not getting the chance to fight the Madman back in the arena has become one of the greatest regrets of my life! I heard he’s been causing trouble for you lately. If I join you, then I’m guaranteed to run into him eventually, right?”
Messiah was speechless. That reason was… impressively absurd.
Offending the strongest pirate faction around just for the sake of a fight? Who would believe that?
“Mhm! I understand you completely.” Red Dragon patted Nie Yun on the shoulder with a look of deep sympathy.
After all, he’d spent far longer as “number two” than Nie Yun had.
Messiah: “……”
Heh. Men…
Too lazy to comment on male pride, Messiah fixed Nie Yun with a sharp stare.
“Your personality… doesn’t seem like that of a battle maniac.”
This guy and the Madman were completely different types. There was barely any similarity between them at all.
“That’s only because you don’t know me yet! Ever since I was little, I’ve loved fighting. If something can be solved with fists, I never waste words. And whenever I see someone stronger than me, I feel uncomfortable all over! I’m just that competitive!”
Twin Dragons: “……”
“I know you probably don’t believe me, but I understand the rules of this line of work. I brought a token of allegiance.”
“Uh… what kind of token?” Red Dragon asked.
“Heh… I heard… your Red Dragon has encountered a bit of a problem?”
There was an indescribable meaning hidden within Nie Yun’s smile…
