Chapter 594 Second Rank

(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)

“I admit it—you’re worthy of making me go all out. Be proud of that!”

The Red Dragon regained his confidence, and in the next instant, blazing light erupted violently from the thrusters on the back of his mech.

Whoosh!
Like a meteor falling from the heavens, the Red Dragon, trailing dazzling flames, slammed down from high above.

“Oh? So this is the legendary palm strike from the sky?” Nie Yun even had time to crack a joke before bending his knee and leaping backward to dodge.

Boom!
A deafening explosion rang out as shattered rocks scattered in all directions.

Before the smoke and dust could settle, a streak of red light tore through the cloud and charged straight toward the Ghost, once again launching an attack. The long-handled axe in its grip swept across with a shrill howl.

“So both power and speed have increased dramatically?” Nie Yun instantly assessed the change in the Red Dragon’s combat capability, though he deliberately slowed his movements by half a beat.

Clang!
The crystalline axe blade turned into a blur, slicing past. After a metallic clash that sounded like tearing silk, a long, smoking gash suddenly appeared across the Ghost’s chest.

Hiss!
Nie Yun’s gaze sharpened—this attack…

Even the nearby mechanical insects were instantly vaporized. The energy level was simply too high, leaving them no time to absorb or redirect it.

“Energy crystallization! A legacy of advanced civilizations—compressing massive energy particles into a tangible form. This is the unique ability of a super mech core. Even after thousands of years, we still haven’t unraveled this miraculous technology.

Before highly compressed crystallized energy, any shield or defense is as fragile as paper—it is utterly unstoppable!” the commentator excitedly explained.

Bang! Bang! Bang!
The two mechs collided again. But this time, the Ghost was completely at a disadvantage.

With energy crystallization activated, the Red Dragon not only gained tremendous boosts in speed and power, but its indestructible weapon also forced Nie Yun to fight cautiously, severely limiting his attacks.

Even worse, mere brief physical contact caused the Ghost’s contact points to glow red-hot, nearly melting. Before long, its entire body bore over a dozen dark-red high-temperature “burn wounds.”

“Hahaha! Now this is satisfying!”
As if venting his frustration from being flung away earlier, the Red Dragon attacked wildly, laughing maniacally as he swung his long-handled axe into a storm of afterimages, fully committing to offense without any defense.

They exchanged more than ten rounds—

Bang!
The Ghost landed a powerful kick into the Red Dragon’s side, while the Red Dragon simultaneously kicked the Ghost square in the chest!

They exchanged kicks, but the outcomes were vastly different.

The Red Dragon’s waist armor, made of crystallized energy, merely flickered faintly. The mech didn’t even wobble.

Meanwhile, the Ghost was sent flying backward, skidding dozens of meters across the ground before barely managing to stop.

Nie Yun glanced at the unharmed Red Dragon, then looked down at the massive dark-red footprint still radiating heat on the Ghost’s chest, his teeth aching.

“Damage immunity? Energy crystallization almost completely ignores kinetic impact? And it even reflects damage? If that’s the case, pure close combat can’t even break its defenses…”

On the other side, although the Red Dragon had overwhelming advantage, his expression was still solemn as he watched the Ghost rapidly cooling down.

Ordinary mechs wouldn’t just fail to withstand his attacks—they’d be melted by the intense heat of the crystallized energy armor or suffer irreversible internal damage.

Yet this Ghost mech… even its heat resistance was absurdly high. As expected of mechanical race high technology…

The Red Dragon slammed his axe heavily into the ground.

“Give up! My Red Dragon mech fears close combat the least. No matter how strong your iron fists are, they’re completely useless against energy crystal armor!”

If you can’t break my defense, how can you possibly win?

“Heh. Surrender? You’re saying that a bit too early. Besides… who told you that only you can transform?”

“What?” The Red Dragon froze.

The next moment, eerie blue electrical currents suddenly erupted all over the Ghost.

Crackle—!
Lightning snakes danced wildly, as if forming a sea of thunder.

“Second stage—activate!”

Within the blinding electric light, the mechanical insects composing the Ghost began yet another microscopic reconfiguration, fueled by surging energy. The distance between each unit rapidly compressed.

When the lightning finally faded, revealing the Ghost once more, the entire arena fell into stunned silence. Even Shadow and Messiah in the viewing stands straightened slightly…

“This… what is this?!” The Red Dragon stared in shock at the slender mech before him.

Was this really my opponent just now?

Though the new Ghost retained its general shape, its frame had become much slimmer, as if starved for half a year.

If the previous Ghost was a heavily armored titan with bulging muscles, this version resembled a lean, agile EVA-type body—its entire structure compressed by nearly half.

Its surface had turned into a smooth, mirror-like black sheen, as if carved from a single block of black crystal, appearing dense, solid, and indestructible.

“Un… unbelievable! It seems that in dire circumstances, the Ghost still had a trump card! This bizarre transformation ability—could it be a devastating ultimate move? Could this actually be another legendary mech?!” the commentator exclaimed in shock.

The other commentator, clearly more technically versed, began to analyze further.

“No! That’s not right—this isn’t a legendary mech, but rather an advanced mech transformation technology!

Mech transformation techniques aren’t rare within the Empire. However, they usually involve only partial modifications, and in most cases are merely flashy, entertainment-oriented upgrades.

That’s because transformation capabilities consume a tremendous amount of precious internal space, greatly reducing both output power and structural strength.

It’s said that only the mechanical race’s precision construction techniques have real combat value, and they’ve even developed transformable liquid metal…”

The commentator stopped halfway through, as if wary of saying too much.

The three pirate captains suddenly understood. So that’s how it is…

Listening to the commentator’s analysis, Nie Yun smiled to himself.

His second-stage transformation was naturally no ordinary transformation technique—it was a sublimation of material properties achieved by compressing the spacing between mechanical insects!

The mutated “heavy mechanical insects” he had obtained from Ba Tiao had always been one of his key research focuses.

Originally, these “heavy mechanical insects” could only be replicated through “direct lineage reproduction,” but as his mental power grew, Nie Yun’s control over the mechanical insects became increasingly refined.

Not long ago, he achieved a breakthrough—using “light” mechanical insects as raw material and compressing them through massive energy consumption to directly manufacture “heavy mechanical insects,” much like compressing graphite into diamond, completely transforming the material’s properties.

Greater material density, tougher defensive performance, and superior energy conduction—“heavy mechanical insects” were undoubtedly a more perfect mech-building material.

However, the shorter the spacing between the mechanical insects, the stronger the microscopic interaction forces, creating a far more stable “solid” state.

This meant that while material performance was enhanced, it came at the cost of the insects’ natural fluidity and free-form transformation ability. Therefore, under normal circumstances, Nie Yun preferred using the flexible, responsive “light mechanical insects” to deal with complex and ever-changing situations.

But in the current battle state, heavy mechanical insects were clearly more suited for maximum combat output.

“Even though this mech is full of surprises, without energy crystallization, you still won’t be my opponent! One minute! I’ll make you face reality within one minute!” Red Dragon declared confidently, staring at Nie Yun.

You think a simple transformation lets you defeat me? Without energy crystallization, there’s a fundamental gap between us!

Boom!
The Red Dragon shot forward again, battle axe slashing diagonally!

Whoosh!
But in a blur, Red Dragon instantly lost sight of the Ghost, and the strike cut through empty air.

Red Dragon was shocked. Just as he tried to react, an iron arm suddenly appeared on his shoulder—the Ghost had somehow materialized ghost-like behind him!

“What?!”
Red Dragon spun around and slashed, but the Ghost lightly sprang upward, reappearing almost instantly directly above him, then delivered a devastating inverted kick straight into the Red Dragon’s head.

Bang!
The tremendous force caused the energy crystal armor around Red Dragon’s head to flare violently, yet the mech only sank slightly. Meanwhile, the Ghost rebounded high into the air, hovering above him.

Red Dragon looked up at the Ghost staring down upon him, cold sweat instantly dripping from his forehead.

Though the exchanges were lightning fast, he had already realized that his Red Dragon mech could no longer keep up with the opponent’s speed.

Who would have thought that a mere transformation would double the Ghost’s speed? In comparison, his Red Dragon now moved like a sluggish infant.

But still—no matter how much its strength increased, pure physical attacks could never break through energy crystal armor!

Yet at that moment, the Ghost suddenly assumed a strange posture in midair.

It slightly bent its knees, cupping its palms together near the right side of its abdomen.

At the same time, the diamond-shaped energy crystal at the Ghost’s core—over a meter tall—blazed with intense light!

Massive energy surged along the liquid mechanical insect conduits into its arms, undergoing terrifying accumulation and compression. Within the powerful magnetic field formed between its palms, particles rapidly underwent positronization…

Crackle—!
Violent energy reactions erupted between its palms, as if a miniature sun had ignited.

“Kame… Hame… Ha—!”

BOOM!
A colossal beam of light blasted straight downward!

“I—”
Red Dragon managed only a single word before being completely swallowed by the beam.

BOOM!
The beam punched straight through the arena, pierced deep into the planet’s crust, burst out beyond Shattered Star City, and even obliterated an innocent low-orbit casino along the way before finally shrinking into fading specks of light…

Casino: “…” (You did that on purpose, didn’t you?)

Gulp—
Staring at the massive crystallized void left behind, everyone in the arena swallowed hard.

Who the hell told me this was a close-combat mech?!
