Chapter 496 Super Induction Cooker

(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)

“Zzzzt zzzzt zzzzt~”
On the trunk of the Immortal, rings of silver spiral-patterned coils began to crackle with arcs of electricity.
An invisible, powerful magnetic field filled the surrounding space as massive circular currents surged, fluctuating at a high frequency.

Countless high-speed metal projectiles fired by the Sea Clan fleet slammed straight into this invisible barrier before they could even reach the Immortal.
As they got closer, these projectiles not only slowed down dramatically but also began to glow red-hot, then melted like chocolate under heat into pools of molten crimson metal — and finally were vaporized into misty clouds, losing all threat completely.

“High-frequency magnetic shield detected — electromagnetic kinetic weapons are ineffective!”

The Sea Clan’s AI’s warning made the faces of all the Sea Clan officers shift again.
They hadn’t expected that their electromagnetic kinetic weapons would be countered by the enemy using the same technology — turning their own methods back against them.
It was clear the opponent wasn’t just physically resilient, but had even anticipated the huge threat posed by kinetic weapons.

High-frequency magnetic shields had once been widely used by the Gemini civilization’s fleet before they developed force field shields.
However, since the mainstream weapons of interstellar battle are lightspeed weapons — against which magnetic shields are useless — and because force field shields provide far better protection, magnetic shields were eventually phased out.
Electromagnetic projectiles are not only metal but necessarily made of magnetic materials, making them perfectly countered by electromagnetic shielding technology.

As the saying goes:
“There’s no strongest weapon — only the most suitable one!”

That said, the larger the area covered by a magnetic shield and the stronger the output, the higher the demands on the conductive materials, and overloading can easily cause circuits to melt.
For the Immortal to project such a vast and powerful fortress-grade magnetic shield, Nie Yun had undoubtedly reinforced it using mechanical bug materials.

The so-called “high-frequency magnetic shield” is, in essence, a high-frequency alternating magnetic field.
We know that when a fast-moving metal conductor cuts across a magnetic field, it generates electricity through induction — converting some kinetic energy into electrical energy, slowing the object down.
Moreover, high-frequency field changes induce currents inside the metal — forming eddy currents that heat it up.
This eddy current effect is even commonly used in industry for metal flaw detection.
The faster the cutting speed and the higher the alternating frequency, the more pronounced the eddy current effect becomes.
The Immortal’s high-frequency magnetic shield simply applied this basic principle to slow down and melt all the magnetic projectiles fired by the Sea Clan fleet.

In fact, this is not uncommon even on Earth — for example, the induction cooktop, which has become a household appliance almost everywhere.
The principle of an induction cooker is to use a certain frequency of alternating magnetic field to induce eddy currents in the metal pan placed on it, heating the pan — so it doesn’t “cook the food” directly but “heats the pan.”

And what Nie Yun did was to wrap the Immortal with coils and, through carefully designed and skillful “ropework,” turn it into a… “super induction cooker!”

The Immortal: “… …”
Somehow, after that explanation, it felt like its dignity just plummeted straight down into the Mariana Trench…

Though it sounded unimpressive, the potential of basic science was far from exhausted — even a humble induction cooker, if developed and pushed to the extreme, could become a devastating superweapon.

Looking back at Nie Yun’s path to power, he had never made any groundbreaking discoveries in basic science. Instead, he stood on the shoulders of giants, relying on the super-material mechanical bugs and his exquisite precision manufacturing to push existing scientific theories to their limits.
If basic science sets the ceiling of a civilization, then the existence of mechanical bugs undoubtedly unleashes the full potential of those sciences — constantly pushing toward that ceiling.

Or, as the saying goes in a flashier way:
“Invincible among peers!”

While both sides clashed using electromagnetic weapons, their main cannons continued pounding away, relentlessly pouring fire at each other!

“Zzzzt zzzzt zzzzt!”

Beams of light crisscrossed the battlefield, and the battle grew ever more intense.

As the Sea Clan’s special missiles approached, the Immortal’s anti-air firepower finally unleashed itself without reservation!
108 quad-mounted rapid-fire close-in defense turrets spat out a dense rain of laser beams, weaving a tight interception net that took down most of the incoming missiles.
Only a lucky few slipped through, crashing into the Immortal — only to be blocked entirely by its formidable branches and leaves.

All kinds of high-temperature flames, high-voltage lightning, corrosive toxic mists, force field shocks, and even bursts of nuclear radiation exploded one after another — yet they only caused negligible damage, which the Immortal repaired in the blink of an eye.

The Sea Clan’s probing attacks were clearly ineffective.

On the other side, the Immortal was unwilling to show weakness. Its firepower was relentless: the 324 specialized missile launch pods on its body launched a counterattack, firing over 20,000 missiles into the sky and raining them down fiercely upon the Sea Clan fleet!
Even if such a number of missiles couldn’t inflict massive damage on the fleet, it was enough to throw them into chaos for a while.

The Immortal’s enormous body made it hard to maneuver, and its massive size made it an easy target. The Sea Clan’s main guns could only inflict minor injuries, but with the sheer number of attacks piling up in this gang-up, the damage accumulated — branches were being blasted off one after another.
The Sea Clan fleet, though nimble and skilled at evasive maneuvers, still faced the Immortal’s fortress-level firepower, which packed far greater energy and destructive power. Any direct hit was practically fatal — a ship destroyed, a crew annihilated!

On top of that, the Immortal’s weapons had a very short cooldown and a firing rate no less than the Sea Clan’s. After several rounds of exchanges, the Sea Clan had already suffered heavy losses — another five or six warships destroyed.

On a narrow path, the brave win!

This kind of space encounter was the most direct kind of head-on clash, with both sides gritting their teeth and holding out — until one side retreated… or perished!

But for the Immortal, this was a battle for survival — to lose was to die! Naturally, it pressed forward without hesitation.
The Sea Clan, however, didn’t seem quite as resolute as they appeared on the surface. This could already be glimpsed from when the two commanders earlier ordered their fleet to spread to both flanks.
On the surface, this deployment was meant to encircle from both sides — but wasn’t it also, in a sense, opening a corridor for the Immortal, avoiding a full-on mutual bloodbath if the stalemate dragged on?

Nie Yun’s ploy to sow discord was finally showing results.
The Sea Clan didn’t trust Ishar, and even harbored suspicions toward their own — they would never at this point risk everything in a suicidal charge to stop the Immortal, even if it meant heavy losses to their own fleet.

Now, seeing the immense energy ahead — the Immortal, like a giant primordial beast covered in deadly spines, charging forward with an aura of “whoever blocks me dies”
The two Sea Clan commanders deliberated again and ultimately chose to avoid its edge.

When the Sea Clan fleet accelerated and spread to the sides, sending only a token force of unmanned fighters to intercept, the outcome of this encounter was already becoming clear…

Faced with the enemy’s obvious retreat, the Immortal did not dare let its guard down — while watching for enemies on both flanks, it accelerated and rammed boldly into the minefield laid ahead.

“Whoosh whoosh whoosh!”“Boom boom boom!”

The Immortal’s firepower went full throttle, clearing the path ahead while its body endured the explosions of the mines head-on.

Under the gazes of the Sea Clan officers — some apprehensive, some secretly relieved — the Immortal pressed on through sparks and lightning, roaring out of sight…
