The beast tamer exiled from the hero’s party and the cat eared girl from the strongest race meet
"Not here…!!"
Lin continued to resist, scattering destruction all around.
Each strike carried terrifying power, and countless blows rained down like a storm.
Though the attacks were reckless, they were no less dangerous.
But… the momentum was on our side.
We had many of the strongest warriors.
On top of that, Nina and Kanade had awakened.
With all these factors in play, there was no way we could lose.
…Or so I wanted to say, but we were still one step away.
That one decisive step—we couldn’t quite take it.
Lin was fighting desperately, resisting with everything she had.
We managed to block or evade her attacks, preventing any fatal damage on our end.
But her relentless assault made it impossible to land a decisive blow.
If I were to expose myself and take a reckless gamble, maybe I could do it…
But that was out of the question.
I could put myself in danger, but I wouldn’t let my friends face such risks.
What should we do? How can we break through?
"Rain-kun!"
Chiffon ran toward me.
She was battered all over.
"Chiffon, are you okay? I'll heal you—"
"No, I’m fine. This is nothing."
"But…"
"Really, I’m okay. Hey, Rain-kun, do you trust me?"
"…Alright. But don’t push yourself too hard, okay?"
"Got it."
In reality, even standing must have been painful for her.
Yet, she carried herself with such strength, even managing a smile.
I could see how strong she truly was.
"I have an idea. It might be something only I can do."
"What is it?"
"Sorry, there’s no time to explain. Rain-kun, can you cast a physical enhancement spell on me? I need to get close, but in my current state, it’s too difficult."
"…Alright. I’ll leave it to you. Boost!"
"Thanks! I’ll definitely find a way to break through!"
Chiffon smiled brightly.
Then, her face turned serious, and she charged at Lin.
"Fireball Multi-Shot!"
I cast my spell for cover fire.
I launched as many fireballs as I could.
They were all blocked by a barrier, but the explosion created a smoke screen that conveniently hid Chiffon.
In that moment, she successfully slipped into Lin’s range.
"Thunderclap Blade!"
She infused her sword with lightning magic and struck.
The power of the enchanted blade was immense, shattering multiple barriers at once.
But her blade didn’t reach Lin.
Even so, Lin seemed to sense the danger and focused entirely on countering Chiffon.
A storm of magical attacks rained down on her, aiming to tear her apart.
Despite the support from me, Kanade, and the others, we couldn’t stop every attack.
Still, Chiffon did not waver.
If anything, she charged even more fiercely, more relentlessly than before.
"What are you trying to accomplish by doing this here!?"
"Hah? What’s with you? Are you trying to lecture me? That kind of thing pisses me off!!!"
"Tch… You were once a member of the Hero’s Party, weren’t you? And yet you’re doing this!"
"Shut up, shut up, shut uuuuppp!!! You’re all so annoying! A mere nobody has no right to lecture a genius like me!!!"
"It’s because I’m a nobody!!!"
Chiffon stepped in even closer.
Lin’s face twisted in frustration at her overwhelming determination.
"I’m not a genius or anything like that. I’m just an ordinary person! But that’s exactly why I worked so hard. I tried my best to be kind. And yet… I failed. I thought only about myself, and I ended up burdening those around me…"
Chiffon’s face was filled with regret.
She was probably remembering what had happened in Kagune.
"But I didn’t give up. I reflected on my failures and tried to move forward. I wanted to make up for the trouble I caused. That’s why I’m here, fighting you, standing alongside Rain-kun!"
"You’re so damn irritating!"
"And what about you!? You keep making mistakes, but you never reflect on them, never try to change… Are you really okay with living such a twisted life!? Even if you make mistakes, can’t you at least try to live straight and true!? Didn’t being with Rain-kun make you feel that way!?"
"That’s why you’re so annoying!!! Stop lecturing me!!!"
"Tch—!"
Lin’s magic stormed forth, sending Chiffon flying.
But… something felt different.
The power of her magic had weakened slightly.
Even if she could cast spells without incantations, she still needed some level of focus.
Had Chiffon’s words shaken her?
"I won’t become like you! This time, I will fulfill my duty as a Hero! And my first task… is to end you, here and now, before you lose yourself even further!"
"You… fake!!! I—I’m the real one…!"
"Fake or real—it doesn’t matter! I will do what I must. As the new Hero… I’ll settle things with you, my former comrade!"
Chiffon raised her sword once more.
"Lunatic Bolt!!!"
A massive surge of lightning engulfed her blade.
The energy crackled wildly, discharging electricity in all directions, unable to be contained.
"Ultimate Thunderclap Blade!!!"
"Wha—!?!?"
Lin’s barriers shattered in an instant.
And then—
A colossal thunderstrike and a devastating slash rained down upon her.
