The beast tamer exiled from the hero’s party and the cat eared girl from the strongest race meet
Finia spread her flaming wings wide, intercepting the attack aimed at Nina.
As expected of Elfin's daughter.
She was holding off Lin’s overwhelming attacks all by herself.
"Daughter of the divine race, match your timing with me!"
"I’ll do it too!"
"Nn!"
If her daughter was fighting with all her might, how could the mother do any less?
With that thought, Elfin steeled herself, conjuring wings of fire even larger than Finia’s.
At the same time, Chiffon gathered all her magic power, forming a glowing magic circle around her arms.
"Nnn... Take this!"
Before them, a hole leading to another dimension opened.
"Burn!"
"Lunatic Bolt!!!"
Elfin and Chiffon’s attacks exploded forth.
"Tch."
Lin clicked her tongue, wary of any attacks coming through teleportation.
Where would it come from next? The right? The left? Above? Behind?
She swiftly scanned her surroundings, trying to predict the next move—but she got it all wrong.
The answer was... beneath her feet.
"What—?!"
Noticing the hole opening beneath her, Lin’s face twisted in shock.
She tried to escape, but it was too late.
A raging inferno and a roaring lightning strike burst forth, surging skyward like a furious dragon.
"Guh—Gyaaah...! Like hell this is enough to stop meeeee!!!"
"What?!"
Lin unleashed a surge of magic from within, blowing away Elfin and Chiffon’s attacks.
What brute strength.
If she could force her way through that attack, then that meant her raw power was already greater than theirs.
Lin was certainly a skilled magician—but she was originally just a human.
And yet, simply evolving into a demon had granted her such immense power.
Thinking back, Edgar’s case was similar.
He was just a noble with no remarkable abilities, yet after evolving, he became powerful enough to completely overwhelm us at the time.
Did evolving into a demon grant one power beyond even the strongest species?
If so, then what exactly were demons?
Perhaps it was time to truly consider what demons were at their core.
But first, we had to survive this battle.
"Take this!"
I, Kanade, Rifa, and Shigure engaged in close combat.
Chiffon, Finia, and Elfin provided ranged support.
Meanwhile, Nina focused on assisting everyone.
Even with this well-coordinated strategy, we couldn't overpower Lin.
Her firepower was overwhelming.
Even combining all our attacks, we still couldn’t match her strength.
Our mobility was superior, but her defense was ridiculous.
It was as if she didn’t even bother dodging—she just took everything head-on.
She was like a fortress.
"Damn it!"
Thanks to Nina, our attacks were connecting, and we were taking fewer hits.
Even so, we were still one step short.
If only we had an attack strong enough to break through her absurd magic barrier...!
"Uunyaah! If only I could transform like Nina!"
Kanade, seemingly thinking the same thing, cried out in frustration.
"Wishing for what you don’t have won’t help us now."
I fired a fireball, trying to create an opening.
"Let’s coordinate our attacks!"
"Okay!"
"I’ll follow up too!"
Kanade, Shigure, and I launched a synchronized assault.
But breaking through Lin’s overwhelming firepower was easier said than done...
Even if we managed to break through, she would just deploy multiple layers of barriers and block the attack.
Even with Kanade’s power, we couldn’t break through.
Her offense and defense were both flawless.
Damn it, this is such a pain… I never imagined Lin would gain this much power.
"Ahahaha! I panicked for a second, but you guys really aren’t that impressive. Trash stays trash. I’ll kill every last one of you. Oh, don’t worry—your friends? I’ll slaughter them all too. I’ll send you all off to the afterlife together!"
BOOM!!!
Another powerful spell—one that looked like an advanced-level magic—exploded.
I couldn’t hold my ground and was blown away.
Meanwhile, Lin was already preparing a second attack…
"Not happening!"
"Wha—?!"
I launched a wire from Narukami, wrapping it around Lin.
Since it encased even her barriers, it seemed she couldn’t completely defend against it.
The wire itself had no offensive power…
But right now, this was enough.
I pulled the wire back.
As my body was yanked forward, I closed the distance between me and Lin…
"Take this!"
"Rain, you—!"
Like a beast pouncing on its prey, I thrust Kamui at Lin.
But… it didn’t work.
At the last moment, her barrier blocked the attack, stopping my blade just short.
Lin smirked.
"Too bad. You were so close."
"Tch…!"
"But you did make me nervous for a second… so I’ll return the favor!!!"
Lin placed her palm against my chest…
I realized the danger—but it was too late.
"—!!!"
A powerful shock struck me at point-blank range, and my consciousness faded.
