The beast tamer exiled from the hero’s party and the cat eared girl from the strongest race meet
Chapter 419: What must be protected
(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)
"Take this... Gigavolt!!!"
Shifon's lightning magic raced through the dungeon corridor.
It resembled a dragon, devouring every monster in its path and annihilating the swarm of enemies deeper inside.
The overwhelming power was fitting for a hero.
"Blood Shoot!"
Rifa bit her thumb, generating bullets from the flowing blood.
Normally, she would simply fire them as they were, but...
"Spin."
The blood bullets began to spin horizontally.
The rotation was so intense it produced a high-pitched screech, and when fired at the monsters, the spinning bullets tore into their bodies with increased penetration.
Generating countless bullets like that and firing them in rapid succession would be devastating for any enemy.
"Nina, let’s go!"
"Mm."
Kanade and Nina exchanged glances and nodded as if signaling something to each other.
Then Nina opened a hole in space.
The exit appeared directly above the monsters.
"Nyaaan!"
Kanade thrust her fist into the hole Nina had created—
Thud!
—and her fist leaped through space, crashing down on the monsters from above.
By utilizing Nina's ability, Kanade was able to launch ranged attacks.
But... isn’t that a bit unfair?
It was nearly impossible to defend against, making it an extraordinarily troublesome attack for the enemies.
"Burn to ashes!!!"
Elfin scattered crimson flames, incinerating a group of about ten monsters into charcoal.
Magic stones tumbled and rolled on the ground.
The sheer attack power was astounding.
To think I once stood against someone as powerful as Elfin... If I were asked to do it again, I’d probably tremble with fear.
Well, regardless.
If necessary, I’d do it.
"Nyaa... Rain, what’s wrong?"
Kanade, sharp as ever, sensed something and looked at me suspiciously.
"Ah, it’s nothing."
"Did you do something reckless while we weren’t around?"
"...I didn’t."
"That pause makes you sound super suspicious!"
"More importantly, come on, let’s focus on repelling the monsters."
"Nyaa... You better tell me everything later!"
Of course, I don’t mind.
I don’t wish to keep secrets either.
The only issue is whether I’ll still have the strength left to explain it later.
Deeper within the horde of monsters, the space was warping violently.
Monsters kept appearing from the distortion, no matter how many we defeated.
We had to somehow get Nina close enough to fix the spatial distortion, but the task was far from easy.
We had not only Elfin but also Feenia and other members of the Phoenix Tribe on our side.
And Kanade and the others, too.
Our offensive power wasn’t the issue.
The problem was the sheer abnormal number of enemies.
For every monster we defeated, it felt like two more emerged, gradually pushing us to the brink.
"Human, do you still have strength to spare?"
Elfin, while incinerating monsters, turned to ask me.
"Of course."
"If so, we will carve a path forward. During that time, you must eliminate the distortion."
"That’s... not possible."
"Why not? I would like to hear your reasoning."
"If we abandon the defense now, they’ll overrun us in an instant. If that happens, the residential area behind us will be flooded with monsters. That cannot happen. Even among the Phoenix Tribe, there must be those who cannot fight, right?"
"...Once again, I ask: you are human, yet you worry for us?"
"Of course. I don’t have anything against the Phoenix Tribe."
"Even though I once burned you?"
"Yes. While it’s true that we need the power of the Phoenix Tribe, that’s not the only reason.
After spending time with Feenia and all of you, I’ve come to understand something.
The Phoenix Tribe... is a deeply kind-hearted people."
"...Kind-hearted..."
At times, they use their flames to burn enemies.
But that’s not their essence.
The gentle flames Feenia showed me—that is the true nature of the Phoenix Tribe.
Their flames envelop others, healing them and embracing everything.
That is their kindness.
"That’s why I want to protect you all. Not because we need your strength, but simply because I want to stand beside you and walk forward together."
"...In that case..."
Elfin turned to look at me—
And, just faintly, smiled.
"Believe in us."
"...Elfin-san..."
"Indeed, the monsters' momentum is troublesome. However, we can hold them off for a short while. Not a single one will reach the residential area. So... during that time, you must deal with the distortion."
"But that’s..."
"I... have decided to believe in you—Rain Shroud, the human."
"!? "
"So, you must believe in us as well."
"...Understood!"
Finally, Elfin-san trusted me.
Even in the midst of this chaos, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of happiness.
A strange strength welled up inside me.
Right now, I felt like I could do anything.
"Everyone!"
"Yeah, we heard the plan!"
"So, we just need to get Nina-chan over there, right?"
"Nina, can you manage it?"
"Mm... I'll... do my best!"
As if to say, "Leave it to me," Nina clenched her small fists tightly.
I patted her on the head a couple of times before saying:
"Kanade! Chiffon! First, let’s clear a path!"
"Got it, nya!"
"Understood!"
The three of us charged forward.
Kanade used her immense strength to blow away the monsters in the front line, while Chiffon and I used magic to wipe out the ones further back.
We managed to clear out a significant number, but reinforcements appeared almost immediately.
Before they could overwhelm us, however, Rifa acted.
"Swirl and rage... Blood Tempest!"
The blood bullets gathered in one place, forming a vortex that turned into a storm.
The tempest swallowed the monsters blocking the path, shredding them to pieces.
"Nina!"
"Mm!"
I grabbed Nina and dashed forward.
Five steps to go.
Three steps.
One step.
And then—
"We made it...!"
Nina reached out and touched the center of the distortion.
TL Note- Will they make it?
