The beast tamer exiled from the hero’s party and the cat eared girl from the strongest race meet

Chapter 327 Touhou(East)

(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)

"Nyan? Sword repair?"

After I finished talking with Chiffon, I returned to the inn.

It seemed quite some time had passed, as everyone was already awake.

They were angry at me for leaving without a word, so I had to explain everything.

"Can you repair a legendary weapon, Rain? You're not a blacksmith, you're a Beast Tamer, right?" asked Kanade.

"Well, Kanade, if it's Rain, he might surprisingly be able to do it," replied Tania.

"True. I can imagine him taming some special animal and casually saying, 'It's no big deal,' while fixing it with a straight face," added Sora.

"Hey, I'm not completely clueless about how absurd that would be. Besides, there's no animal you can tame that can do blacksmithing."

Rifa tilted her head slightly to the side and said, "I don't really understand."

It felt odd having Rifa with us, even though the incident had already been resolved. I guess it meant she'd joined our party. It'd be nice if we got used to having her around soon.

Tania, looking suspicious, asked, "By the way, do you think the new hero is okay? I mean, considering what happened with Arios, I guess I'm a bit mistrustful."

I replied with a laugh, "I think it'll be fine. Given the Arios incident, they must have conducted a thorough examination this time. And..."

"And?"

"I only spoke briefly with her, but she seemed really nice. Compared to Arios, she's like an angel."

"If Rain says so, then I guess I can trust her," said Tania.

"But the new hero is a woman?" asked Sora, raising an eyebrow.

"And they seem to get along quite well, don't they?" added Luna.

"Hey, I haven't done anything wrong, right?"

"Is there a chance you've been swept off your feet by this female hero?" asked Kanade.

"Huh? What are you talking about?"

"We're not going to allow you to get involved with another woman while we're around," said Sora.

"I'm not sure what you're getting at, but there's nothing like that going on."

I had only just met Chiffon, and there was no way we'd be involved like that. Sure, love at first sight happens in the world, but that wasn't the case here. Neither of us showed any interest in that.

"Anyway, let's get back on topic. I'd like to talk about the sword repair."

"A legendary sword?" asked Kanade.

"I know about that! It's the Comet Sword, right?" replied Tina.

"You're well-informed."

"I've been a ghost for a long time, after all."

"Nyaa... Tina knows more than me," remarked Luna.

"It's kind of depressing when Tina knows more than us," muttered Rifa.

"What do you mean by that?! I'm not an airhead character!" retorted Tina.

Our conversations tended to go off on tangents like this, but it was fun.

"Let's get back on track. Chiffon found the Comet Sword, but it's in terrible shape. I saw it too, and you'd never believe it was a legendary weapon."

"What kind of shape is it in?" asked Rifa.

"It's rusted, chipped, and looks like it'd break if used," I replied.

"How did it end up like that?"

"I'm not sure. Chiffon doesn't seem to know either."

The previous hero, before Arios, fought the previous Demon King a long time ago. The True Shield was kept safe by the spirits, and the Heaven Ring was used to seal Iris and was stored in a shrine.

But the Comet Sword was left out in the open and seemingly abandoned. It must have almost decayed from the long years of neglect.

"Normally, wouldn't you keep a sword in better condition?" asked Rifa.

"Yeah, you'd think so. But legendary weapons used by heroes are tricky to handle," I replied.

These weapons had high value due to their history, and some people tried to claim them for themselves. Despite the country's efforts to manage them, some individuals with influence were among those seeking to take them. Because of their actions, the Comet Sword was lost.

Even the True Shield and the Heaven Ring had gone missing a few times, thanks to human greed. It’s a frustrating story.

"If you need repairs, are you sharpening it or reforging it?" asked Sora.

"It'll have to be reforged. Just sharpening it wouldn't be enough."

"Then why do we need to get involved? None of us have blacksmith skills," asked Kanade.

"Maybe you can bring together a fallen legendary blacksmith and his estranged son and ask him to repair the sword as a reward?" suggested Kanade.

"Kanade, what are you even talking about?" replied Sora.

"Why does everyone look at me like I'm an idiot?!" Kanade exclaimed.

The story Kanade mentioned is a common trope in many narratives.

However, this time, things are different.

"It's not just me; we'll need the power of everyone," I said.

"Nyan? Ours?" Kanade asked.

"To reforge the sword, we'll need to go east of the Eastern Continent, to the farthest city, Kagune," I explained.

"Ka-gu-ne?" Kanade repeated, trying to get the pronunciation right.

"It's a city with a unique culture. Since it's far from the central region, it developed in its own way. I haven't been there myself, so it's hard to describe in words, but it's where the Katana that Ax uses was made."

There are other things, too—like a type of garment called Kimono, and in the summer, there are fireworks called Hanabi. It’s a city with an intriguing culture that I've always wanted to visit, even without this mission.

"The Comet Sword is said to have been made in Kagune. So, we need to go there to reforge it," I said.

"Okay, got it," Kanade replied with a nod.

"But why do you need our help?" Tania asked.

"Since it's a legendary sword, it can't just be reforged. The sword's power seems to have drained, so we need a ritual to imbue it with new power," I explained.

"That power... does it come from..." Tania began.

"Yeah, it relies on everyone's power," I replied.

The first time the Comet Sword was forged, over a thousand people channeled their magic into it. The result was a legendary weapon capable of defeating the Demon King.

It might seem like we could just repeat that process this time, but it's not a realistic solution.

Finding a thousand people with sufficient magical power isn't easy, and it would take a lot of time.

Even if we managed to gather them, it would be a large-scale operation. Given that the Comet Sword and Chiffon need to be kept under wraps, it wouldn't work.

If word about it reached the demons, who were quite active, they'd definitely try to interfere.

"...So that's why it's not practical to gather a large group of people," I concluded.

"Got it. In that sense, a small group like us can handle it, so it’s much easier to repair," Tania agreed.

"Actually, to be honest, as long as Sora and I are here, it shouldn't be a problem," Luna added.

"Is that so?" I asked.

"Yeah. My mother once said that the magic imbued into the legendary sword is about the same as her own," Luna replied.

"Sora and I don't have as much magical power as our mother, but if you put us together, I think we can provide about the same output," Sora explained.

Sora and Luna seemed more dependable than usual.

"Is it okay to travel even farther from Horizon?" Tania asked.

"I've already informed them, so it should be fine. It's hard to refuse a request from a hero. Besides, I personally want to take on this task," I replied.

"Why's that?" Kanade asked.

"Is it because the hero is a cute girl? That's a pretty guy thing to do, Rain," Tina teased.

"N-no, that's not it," I quickly denied.

Everyone gave me a skeptical look, so I hurried to explain.

"I said it shouldn't be a problem, but I'd like to confirm what kind of person Chiffon is," I explained.

TL Note- Sorry for the late night update(It's 1:11 am from where I am) I was completing my lab file....
