Evil Avalon

Chapter 78-Current status of E-Class (1)

(TL:By Rafael)

'It's definitely not right. Maybe we should do a little probing.'

'That's ...... no, let me know if you find anything out. Good luck."

'Oh, and Naoto. Good luck. Okay, then."

The third day of the class competition. After the regular morning call and report, I hang up the phone with Yuma. I sighed as the situation was not as good as I had expected.

Our original plan was to score as many points as we could in the first half of the tournament, which was mainly in the shallower levels, in other words, to get away with it before the end of the day. To do so, we had to score at least more points than the D class. In the second half, the main battlefield would be on the fifth floor and beyond, which would put us in the E class at a disadvantage because of our low average level.

However, according to the report from Yuma, who was leading the team to reach the designated points, we were in last place in all of the eight battles we had participated in so far. We have not been able to beat not only the higher classes but even the D class even once.

The "designated points" competition is an event in which contestants compete to reach a randomly determined point. The starting position is free, so when the points are announced, the class closest to the starting position will have a big advantage - even though they should.

The Yuma's were ahead of the D-Class even when they were much closer to the start than the D-Class. There must have been many monsters along the way, but they were so fast that it was hard to believe that they were advancing after defeating them.

Of course, if you take them along without defeating them, a monster train will form behind you. The fact that the D class has not yet been disqualified suggests that they must be dealing with the monsters in some way. But what is that means?

The first thing that came to mind was the existence of helpers. If the monsters encountered were pushed to the helpers, the battle time would be greatly reduced, and even if the starting position was a little bad, it would be possible to make up for it. However, this would be in conflict with the "hand in hand" message.

It would be better to exchange opinions with her, who was listening next to me, in order to gather her thoughts.

"Nitta, what do you think about the report I just gave you?"

"Hmm~, all D-class assistants were supposed to be attached to support the total amount of magic stone, right?"

"Ah, if Omiya's information is correct."

The actuality of the existence of the helpers was discovered, the class was upset and the situation was greatly disturbed.  If this happens, the morale of Class E will collapse like dominoes.

In order to take immediate countermeasures, it was necessary to find out how many and how strong the D class helpers were. Omiya was the one who bought that investigation.

Within a few hours, a detailed report came to Lisa, although we did not know how she had done the research. According to the report, six adventurers, who appeared to be around level 8 with sun badges, were confirmed to be supporting the D-class total magic stone quantity group. She did not see any helpers in any other category.

We would like to rework our strategy based on Omiya's information and try to rewind somehow, but Yuma's earlier report suggests that there may be helpers not only for the total magic stone amount but also for reaching the designated points. In other words, it contradicts the report raised by Omiya.

"Hmmm. I think we can trust Satsuki's information. But I am sure that there is some secret to the designated point. For example, ......."

Nitta put her index finger on her cheek as she thought.

"Class D has the total amount of magic stone attached to the support of the designated point. Or something like that?

"Hmmm. I'm sure that would explain a lot. However, ......"

It seems strange to sacrifice the amount of total magic stones, which are allocated in points, to the support.

The designated points now take place on the fourth to fifth floors. It is not impossible to collect magic stones while providing support, but the collection efficiency will surely drop. Thanks to the efforts of Sakuraco and Kaworu, our class has been able to outperform the D class in the magic stone quantity competition.

Even so, Class D has suffered an accident in which all members of the depth group have retired, and if they continue to lose the total amount of magic stones, they will be upstaged by Class E..................... If we continue to drop the total amount of magic stones, we will be close to the E class...if not even close. That would be humiliating for them, who have made fun of us so much, and I don't think they would leave the situation as it is.

" They're going to try to sabotage us... They're going to give us hope and then knock us down at the end."

"Should we tell Sakurako, Kaworu, and the others to stay close to us, just in case?"

"But~ Satsuki is over there too, so I think it will be fine. Besides, I've asked for a special helper."

"A special ...... helper? What kind of person is that?"

Although the low average level is the main reason why we in Class E are in a difficult situation, the presence of helpers attached to other classes is also a major factor. However, it would be a different story if we could get helpers. We might even be able to turn things around. Depending on how good they are and their abilities, the scope of our strategy may change. I asked him, as if I was about to bite into his hand.

"Fufu. Secret ♪"

Nitta only put her index finger on her mouth and smiled mischievously, but did not tell me.

 *...*...*...*...*...*...*...*...

 -- Kaworu Hayase's point of view --

"It's strange. I don't see any monsters here either."

"This one's being hunted. Should we go further in?"

Although we have been hunting on the fourth floor of the dungeon until the second day, I decided to move to the fifth floor entrance separately from Sakurako and the others from today onward, as we had become accustomed to combat. However, we could hardly find any monsters around us, probably because they were already hunted down, so we moved our hunting ground to the back of the building, but ...... it was the same here. Some group might be hunting in this area.

Omiya-san suggested that we go further in because we were wasting our time just standing there.

"We've only had a little battle since we came to the fifth floor, so I think it's better to be cautious. We're one man short."

"But now that we're outperforming the D class, I think it would be a shame to let up."

Tsukishima-kun said, "I'll go get a big magic stone," and went away on his own, leaving our group with  one member less. I really wish ......he would put themselves in the shoes of those of us who are worried about them.

Still, there was a happy miscalculation.  Omiya-san was more experienced in combat than I had imagined. She was able to handle the main tank more proficiently than I could, which allowed her to dramatically increase the number of battles she was able to fight, and also increased her sense of stability.

Even though the events with Mashima and Yuma were struggling and our classmates were disheartened when the presence of upper class helpers came to light, we in the total magic stone group were able to achieve reasonable results and keep our morale up. It is no exaggeration to say that it was all thanks to her.

If we could keep our hands loose here and earn more magic stones, we might be able to ignite the momentum of the class, which was likely to stall in the second half of the year. I think it's worth a try.

"Then let's go to the back just one more time. From here, there is a ...... safe zone nearby, that point might be a good place."

"Okay, everyone, let's move just a little bit further."

"Yes!"

The members of our total magic stone group responded with a cheerful reply, probably because we are doing so well so far. At first I was worried about how things would turn out, but at this rate, I am sure we will be able to overcome the class competition. Even if we don't win, we can still have high expectations for the future. We can't give up.

But it's rare to see monsters this deep into the countryside.

We walk about 2km south and arrive at the desired hunting ground. A safe zone where monsters don't pop is also close to here, so we can take a break when we get tired. We can take a break when we get tired.

"Then go fishing ...... and wait a minute. Something's coming from over there."

"What's wrong ......?"

The first time Omiya stepped out to catch a monster, she noticed something strange and listened carefully. I could feel something more like a small earth tremor than a vibration. This is not a good sound.

Someone is running a monster train! And on an unusual scale!

My classmate pulls out his binoculars and tells me what's going on. That's ...... Orc Road!

They are running and squealing frequently. The orcs must have been doing something provocative repeatedly to be that excited. Following behind them were Orc Soldiers, at least 50 of them summoned. If we get caught in a train as large as that, even we will not be safe. We should get out of here as soon as possible.

"Look, there they are! There's Sanjo-san and the others!"

"What?"

If you look toward where Orc Road is heading, you will see a group of people, including Sakurako and her friends, scattered about. There is no such thing as leadership, and each individual runs in a different direction to escape. Even if they succeeded in escaping from the train, all but Sakurako were below level 5, and if they met a monster while acting alone, it would be fatal. What should we do?

"Calm down! I'll go, you guys go back the way you came in one mass!"

Omiya-san pulled a knife from her waist and said she would go into that place alone. I tried to shout that it was absurd, but it was also true that there was no way to save them other than for someone to change the direction of that train. But--

"I'll be fine. Mr. Hayase, take care of everyone!"

Sh said as she looked into my eyes, and she ran off at a frightening speed. I looked and saw that the train was about to be unleashed in front of my classmates. I had to trust  Omiya-san to make the move.

"Everyone, this way!"

TL Note- So that's how you fail it.....
