--Dungeon.
A gateway to another world that suddenly appeared in the early Taisho era.
Since radio waves and light cannot travel between the inside and outside, the boundary surface of the entrance is completely black. Spatially, it is different. It is a different space.
When it was first discovered, it was feared for a variety of reasons, including that it was hell, that demons would appear, and that it would be hidden from the world. However, when it was discovered that the magic stones dropped when monsters were defeated could be used as a source of energy, our country mobilized its armed forces to conquer the dungeon, ignoring the war.
At first, they used bayonets as their main weapons to reach the deeper levels, but eventually, the number of monsters that were difficult to kill with guns increased and the military suffered tremendous damage, stopping them from going beyond a certain level.
This did not mean that the country's upper echelons could give up on the energy resources of magic stones and unknown materials, and the government-led research and development for dungeon conquest was put to great use.
Not only the military, but also widely recruited civilians - who would later be called adventurers - were trained and helped to raise their level. In order to do this, he establishes laws, educational institutions - later known as adventurer schools - and administrative reforms, creates the Ministry of Dungeons, and starts attacking again, involving many people.
Fortunately, there is only one dungeon in Japan, and it is able to secure energy resources without being targeted by other countries.
Fortunately, Japan was able to secure energy resources without being targeted by other countries. The magic stones produced in the dungeons greatly improved Japan's energy situation, which had been dependent on foreign countries, and several world-class magic stone energy companies were born, developing Japan into an energy exporting country. This has contributed greatly to Japan's economic growth.
So far, so good for Japan and the world.
However, 15 years ago. A private company in France announced that they had succeeded in creating an artificial magic field, albeit temporarily.
Originally, physical enhancements could only be seen in dungeons and up to 150 meters from the entrance, but with this invention, physical enhancements can now be seen everywhere, regardless of location. This forced the world into a new era, for better or worse.
Think about it. Think about it: a world full of superhumans who can't even take a bullet, who can shatter a huge rock with a single swing of their sword, and who can run 100 meters in seconds.
The artificial magic field was certainly profitable in terms of agriculture, construction, and other economic aspects, but it was naturally misused by terrorists, politicians, and religious groups, and eventually led to the murder of the President of the United States.
In spite of the presence of many armed bodyguards, the shocking image of the president being cut down with a sword by a lone terrorist and his bodyguards shook people all over the world.
Countries and organizations that have taken notice of this have hired adventurers with large sums of money and have deployed them in inter-state conflicts. These adventurers were also used for espionage, espionage, and assassination, and the nature of war and diplomacy changed dramatically. Around this time, mercenary organizations began to take center stage in politics and religion, and began to have a serious impact on the security of nations.
The magic fields and dungeons are strictly controlled by the United Nations to prevent their misuse, but even so, there are still many crimes committed by adventurers, perhaps because they are using undiscovered dungeons. The response has been slow.
--The adventurer's manual said something like, "This is the happenings of the last decade."
This has been the case for the last ten years. ...... It's serious, isn't it? I did some quick research on this area at home, but I didn't realize that even the President of the United States had been affected by the magic field.
In the game, I should have kept in mind that this was the worldview of the game, and just enjoyed the heroine and the adventurer while diving into the dungeon.
"I wish I had been able to hide in dungeons and enjoy the heroine's adventures.
The event character that would later become the trigger for fighting local wars and agents is in class E. If you work with her and clear the events that come your way, you can gain a huge advantage in dungeon conquest, but ...... I honestly don't want to get involved.
I was almost in a depressed mood, but I didn't want to think about anything else, so I'll just do my best to dive the dungeon.
*...*...*...*...*...*
The dungeon entrance is on the first floor of the Adventurer's School building, which has 10 underground floors and 18 above ground.
The school building is shared by the middle school, high school, and university; the first and second floors are used by the middle school, the third to fifth floors by the high school, and the rest by the Adventurer's College, research institutes, and private companies.
In the original world, the entrance to the dungeon would have been located at the foot of a small mountain, but in order to make full use of the precious magic field, half of the mountain was removed and a huge structure was built around the dungeon entrance. This shows the country's obsession with dungeon resources.
To enter the dungeon, you must first go to the hall in front of the Adventurer's Guild and hold your adventurer's card or a specific terminal over several machines that look like train station ticket gates. In my case, I just held up a wearable device that was given to me at school.
The halls in front of the guild are crowded with adventurers, as tens of thousands of people come and go in a day.
"But there are a lot of flashy people here.
Leather light armor is still on the low side, but there are also adventurers wearing shiny polished metal armor, ultra-colored robes and cloaks, and even a few with huge weapons. The setting of this world is the modern age, but if you just look at the people around you, it's a fantasy world. Only a novice like me would wear a jersey and a baseball bat. ...... Or maybe it's just me.
I walked in through the ticket gate and stood in front of the dungeon entrance, walking slowly along the line. It's a huge entrance, 10 meters long and wide. The bordering surface is incredibly black, as it doesn't reflect any light. It was so black it was bizarre. When I entered, a slippery sensation enveloped my body that I had never felt in the game, and I couldn't help but hold my breath.
After a few seconds of passing through the boundary, I found myself in a hall about 100 meters square, and at the end of the hall, there were several communication facilities connected to the outside world by thick wires. Although radio waves cannot reach the room, wired communication with the outside world seems to be possible, and there are bundles of cables running from the outside to the entrance. There are also a bunch of cables running from the outside to the entrance, probably to allow people to use the terminals inside the dungeon.
There is a rest area and a store, but all the seats are occupied and it's very crowded. Since the entrance is right there, I thought it would be better to go outside to rest than to rest here, but what do I know?
From there, we proceeded along a straight road with no branches, without going against the flow of people.
The inside is a huge cave, the ground is flat but the ceiling and sides are rugged like a huge coal mine. It is also bright, even though there is no light source. The walls do not emit light, but the light that passes through them seems to be coming from the entire wall.
There are no monsters at all in ....... The moment a monster pops, the nearby adventurers rush in and kill it instantly. Anyway, there are too many people. I couldn't fight well in this situation, so I went further in.
It took us about an hour to walk about two kilometers from the entrance. I deliberately left the main street leading to the second floor of the dungeon and headed for a less crowded area. There were a few forks in the road before we reached this point, but the school's terminal had a GPS function that could be used in the dungeon, as well as an automatic mapping function, so we wouldn't get lost in the shallow levels.
And apparently, this dungeon is exactly the same as the internal structure in the game. It will make future dungeon dives much easier to plan and progress.
On the other hand, there was a miscalculation. I didn't think it would take me an hour to get here. Seriously, there are too many people here. I can't wait to go through such a crowded place every time. As I slowly walked along, thinking about how I should modify my future dungeon plans, a black mist appeared in front of me. It was a sign that a monster was about to pop.
The haze disappears, and instead a pale blue blob of slime, about 20 centimeters in size, emerges.
Monsters have a characteristic of not moving for a few seconds after popping. I took advantage of this property and swung the bat down on the gaping slime, and the slime scattered like crushed jelly.
In about ten seconds, the slime fragments turned into a haze and disappeared, leaving only a magic stone the size of a pinky fingernail behind. A magic stone of this size could be bought for ten yen. The efficiency of the hourly wage is very low, but with this many people, it can't be helped.
In the game, slime is monster level 1, and I'm also level 1, so I get 100% of the experience. If you kill a monster below your level, you lose experience, but if it is higher than you, you get an experience bonus. If it's just like the game, though.
In order to become level 2, you have to kill more than 100 level 1 monsters. I had planned to defeat them quickly and become level 2, but it seemed to take a long time waiting for them to pop.
"I thought there was a slime room a little further in ......."
In the northeast corner of the first floor of the dungeon, there is a small room where three slimes will combine and turn into one large special creature, also known as the Slime Room. This is also known as the "Slime Room". The experience value is 10 times that of normal slime, and since the monster level is 2, you also get an additional experience bonus, making this a double treat. At the start of the game, defeating these combined slimes is the theory of attack.
After another 30 minutes of walking from the previous location, I was able to get close to the slime room. Perhaps because there were no more people around, the slimes seemed to be sparse without being killed instantly.
Slime is a passive monster that won't attack unless we attack it even if it finds someone, so we need to lightly hit it with a bat to gather hate (*1) and make it pay attention to us.
Okay, let's give it a try.
As planned, I collected the hate of three slimes and ran into the slime room. ......
"Oh, they're merging."
The slimes, which had been a light blue color, changed color in a few seconds as they united into one, turning into a deeper blue slime. Did it move a little faster?
Be careful, because the combined slime is an active monster that will aggressively attack as soon as it recognizes an enemy. The original slime weighed about two to three kilograms, but the combined slime weighed nearly ten kilograms, making it twice as big as the original. If you were to be attacked by one of them bouncing at several tens of kilometers per hour and jumping into your stomach, it would hurt so much that you would writhe on the spot. Well, I have a thick layer of fat, so I might be okay with it.
At first I was wary and watched the combined slime's attack pattern for a little while, but it seemed that it only made monotonous movements, jumping straight at me just like in the game. I predicted the slime's movements as if I were avoiding a ball, and ducked by shifting half my body and hitting the bat at the same time.
If I hit the core of a normal slime, I could kill it in one hit, but if it was a combined slime, I would have to hit it twice or more to kill it. It's not that difficult, though, so it's not a problem. I'll try my best to get to level 2 today.
I took a break and used the slime room for a few hours to continue hunting. I took a walk around the area in between, but I didn't see any other adventurers hunting the combined slime. As a level 2 monster, it's easy to kill and popular, but I wonder if it's not well known.
"Oh, I got a rare drop. Lucky!"
Slime ring. A dull, glowing reddish-bronze ring with the effect of +2 VIT. It's only a temporary boost to your vitality, but it's a nice thing to have in the beginning. The size of the ring is even bigger than this fat finger, but it's nothing to worry about because magic items change their size to fit the wearer when equipped.
After that, I continued to hunt the combined slimes, maybe 10 in total, and finally the level up came. At first, I felt sick with a drunken sensation of heat surging through my body all at once, and I thought I had fallen ill, but it soon subsided and I felt light.
I felt my body move slightly better. My status must have improved, but I need to go to the Adventurer's Guild appraisal office or the store in the hidden room on the 10th floor to check. When you appraise your status at the appraiser's office, the status on your device will be updated as well, so you might want to avoid sudden level ups as they will be noticeable. If you're at level 2 or 3, people won't think you're weird.
"However, leveling up gives you a sense of omnipotence, it's addictive but It's already this late.
I looked at the time on my device and saw that it was already around seven o'clock at night. I was hungry and my legs were tired. Let's call it a night and hurry home.
(*1) Hate
Hostility from monsters. Monsters give priority to players with high hate, so in boss battles, you need to be careful to manage your hate so that your rearguard doesn't get targeted.
