Chapter 589 General-Purpose Humanoid Decisive Weapon

(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)

The War God Arena. A new round of matches began once again.

“Rumble—!”

Two mechs were successively lifted into the arena from the underground hangar by the rising platforms.

One of them was a relatively rare dark-red beast-type mech. Its appearance resembled a ferocious wolf crouched on all fours. The moment this beast-type mech appeared, waves of cheers instantly erupted from the spectator stands.

“Mad Wolf! Mad Wolf! Mad Wolf—!”

The cockpit hatch on the mech’s back opened, and a towering werewolf with crimson fur climbed out. He arrogantly pointed one hand toward the sky, then let out a long, piercing howl.

“Awoooo—!”

This declaration of victory only drove the crowd into even greater frenzy.

“Wow! Look at that! Everyone’s long-awaited Mad Wolf has finally taken the stage!

As an outsider—and a rare lone wolf—Mad Wolf carved out quite a reputation shortly after entering the Shattered Star Sector. All of this proves his overwhelming strength!

After joining one of the Seven Great Pirate Fleets, the Red Dragon Pirates, Mad Wolf’s rise became unstoppable!

In just five days, he has personally torn apart thirteen opponents. His current arena ranking stands at 108, and he’s steadily marching toward the Top 100!”

Commentator A’s voice echoed, instantly igniting another surge of excitement.

“Exactly! Mad Wolf’s strength is now universally acknowledged. There are even rumors that once he enters the Top 100, the Red Dragon Pirates will appoint him as the new commander of their Mech Assault Unit. Without a doubt, a rising star!” Commentator B chimed in.

Most pirate groups encouraged their elites to compete for arena rankings. This not only displayed their might to maintain or raise their standing on the Shattered Star Rankings, but also helped harvest prestige.

With higher prestige came more pirates willing to join their ranks, allowing the fleet to expand—simple logic.

“Alright! Now let’s take a look at Mad Wolf’s opponent this time… uh! Although he’s a newcomer, his mech style looks quite distinctive!” Commentator A said.

Indeed, the crowd could now see Mad Wolf’s challenger.

It was a pitch-black mech with strange muscle-like textures resembling an armored giant. Though still mechanical in nature, it strangely gave off the eerie sensation of being alive.

“This external skeletal armor and humanoid bionic structure…” Commentator B said thoughtfully. “I can only say that this design demands materials far beyond ordinary metals. If this isn’t just some flashy show-off, then I’m genuinely looking forward to this newcomer’s performance!”

“Oh? Even our resident mech-tech expert is impressed! Let’s check this challenger’s information…” Commentator A paused. “Uh! Surprisingly, he’s a complete rookie! His arena record is… zero!”

“Whoa!”
“Boo!”
“Get off the stage!”

Hearing that a total rookie was challenging the 108th-ranked Mad Wolf, the crowd felt the outcome was obvious. They jeered loudly, demanding the match end. What they wanted to see was fierce combat, not a one-sided slaughter.

“I’m curious,” Commentator B said. “A rookie like this shouldn’t even be matched against Mad Wolf. What’s going on here?”

“People might not believe this,” Commentator A replied, “but this newcomer chose Gamble Mode, directly challenging a top-150 powerhouse. More importantly, his wager is enormous—the entire assets of a pirate fleet ranked 187th on the Shattered Star Rankings!

“Whoa—!”

The audience erupted again. Even for smaller factions, the total assets of a 187th-ranked pirate fleet amounted to several million Shattered Star Credits.

This was a massive gamble!

“In other words,” Commentator B exclaimed, “if Mad Wolf wins, he gets ownership of an entire pirate fleet ranked 187th?”

“Exactly!” Commentator A confirmed. “Even more unbelievable—the wager stipulates that even if Mad Wolf loses, he doesn’t have to pay any price at all. Except, of course, in arena ranking.

This set of rules naturally attracted intense interest from many experts. All we can say is that Mad Wolf was quick—he snapped up this guaranteed-profit deal.”

“Wow! What an eye-watering gamble! No wonder Mad Wolf is willing to lower himself to fight a newcomer. Now I’m extremely curious—who could be so confident as to spend such a huge price just for a chance to challenge a powerhouse?”

The two commentators fully stirred the crowd’s curiosity. The jeers finally died down, replaced by anticipation toward this mysterious challenger.

“Alright! Next, let me formally introduce this newcomer… He is—‘Captain Ghost,’ from the Cybertron Star System!

Mechanical Bug: “……” (╮(╯▽╰)╭)

“Cybertron Star System?” Commentator B asked. “Has anyone ever heard of such a place? Is there a star system called Cybertron near the Shattered Star Sector?”

“Heh, unfortunately, I haven’t heard of it either,” Commentator A chuckled. “But the Empire contains countless star systems. He must be from a very distant region.

A mysterious land, a mysterious challenger—I’m starting to look forward to this spectacular battle!”

Inside the Ghost Ship.

“Why would you place such a bet? Why?!” Goldtooth’s miserable wail echoed through the headset.

“Heh. According to the arena rules you explained, I can’t directly challenge the top ten. And we don’t have that much damn American time to waste grinding through small fry. So naturally, this is the fastest way,” Nie Yun chuckled.

“But if we lose, we’ll really end up with nothing!”

Goldtooth was on the verge of tears. Failing to earn money only meant losing some capital, but if Nie Yun lost this time, he wouldn’t even be able to afford their next night’s lodging. They’d be homeless, wandering the streets!

Why? Why couldn’t they just earn money properly, step by step? Why was it always this gamble or that gamble? Did this guy have gambling addiction?!

Goldtooth swore that from today onward, the thing he hated most in his life… was gamblers!

“By the way, where exactly did this mech come from?” After his emotional flood finally subsided, Goldtooth turned his attention to the real problem.

This mech looked completely different from the Ghost Ship they had seen before. Could it be some secret weapon just delivered from the outside world?

Hope flickered again in Goldtooth’s eyes.

“You really want to know?” Nie Yun’s tone suddenly turned low, faintly carrying a dangerous edge.

“N–No, I don’t!” Goldtooth’s survival instinct kicked in hard.

“Heh.”

At this moment, the Ghost Ship had indeed undergone a complete transformation. Whether in external appearance or internal structure, it had been fundamentally rebuilt.

Long ago, Nie Yun had begun conceptualizing how to exploit the Mechanical Bug’s active-metal properties to design a “general-purpose humanoid decisive combat weapon” that fused machinery with the human body… ahem!

Neural-linked control, biological mimicry, and mechanical augmentation—combining all three fit perfectly with certain conceptual frameworks from EVA.

For a long time, the technologies for the first two had matured, but his accumulation in mech structural engineering was still in its early stages.

However, after absorbing vast amounts of design concepts from the Gemini mechs and parts of the Wulf Empire’s mech technologies, this weakness was finally patched. All the prerequisite technologies for the general-purpose humanoid decisive combat weapon were unlocked—thus giving birth to the present Ghost Ship!

Within the advanced-tier map of the Wulf Empire, Nie Yun could finally let loose and test the true limits of the Mechanical Bug mech.

This was a generation-defining product, entirely different from mainstream mechs—and this arena had the honor of becoming its very first testing ground!

Commentator A: “Alright! The battle is about to begin. Both sides’ logistics teams are entering the field… uh! Why do I only see Mad Wolf’s support crew?

Wait! Our mysterious newcomer hasn’t brought any logistics team at all! He’s actually come alone to challenge! That’s absolutely shocking!”

Commentator B: “Haha! This Captain Ghost really surprises us at every turn!”

Commentator A: “Well, whether this is arrogance or supreme confidence, judging by Mad Wolf’s furious expression, he’s clearly been completely enraged by such contempt!

Oh! Look! There it is—Mad Wolf’s throat-slitting salute! This means the battle will be to the death!”

“Wooo—!” The battle horn sounded, and thunderous cheers erupted across the arena.

“Boom!”

Mad Wolf’s mech instantly turned into a streak of dark-red shadow and shot forward, kicking up clouds of dust and debris as its terrifying power surged forth!

Commentator A: “Look! As expected, Mad Wolf immediately chose an all-out offensive!

His Mad Wolf mech is a top-tier unit produced by the Savage Beast Star System, excelling in ground combat and frontal assaults. It boasts extraordinary mobility and short-range anti-air firepower, and its close-combat capabilities are truly astonishing. Any opponent caught in its range is almost certainly doomed!

Now let’s see how the Ghost contestant responds—uh! What’s going on?! The Ghost pilot isn’t moving at all! He hasn’t even drawn his weapon!”

Commentator B: “Is this some kind of counterattack strategy? Or is he waiting for Mad Wolf to enter attack range?”

Commentator A: “This is bad—the distance is too close! Mad Wolf has already entered his most advantageous melee range, but Captain Ghost still hasn’t moved. Oh! I can’t bear to watch!”

“Rip him apart!” The pirates in the stands roared with savage excitement.

From above, a streak of dark-red light hurtled toward the motionless Ghost Ship.

“Bang!”

The two massive figures finally collided. In the next instant, one of them was violently flung backward.

“Boom!”

Only when the massive steel body slammed into the ground did everyone realize in shock that the one sent flying… was Mad Wolf!

The entire arena fell into a brief, stunned silence.

“Oh! My god! What did I just witness? In close combat, Mad Wolf was actually… slapped away with a single strike!” Commentator A stood frozen, taking several seconds before letting out a stunned cry.

“Look! Captain Ghost has finally made his move—he rushed forward, and then… another slap!”

“Bang!”

Before Mad Wolf could regain his footing, he was smashed back into the ground again.

“Bang! Bang! Bang!”

The arena was dead silent. Even the commentators no longer knew how to describe the scene unfolding before them.

Just moments ago, the ferocious Mad Wolf was overwhelmingly imposing—yet now he was utterly powerless to fight back. Again and again, he struggled to his feet, only to be slapped back into the ground once more. What was unfolding could no longer be called a battle; it was a one-sided lesson in discipline, like an adult educating a child.

Commentator B: “Unbelievable! Captain Ghost is also piloting a top-tier close-combat mech! Look at those fluid movements, that crushing power! Agile—far too agile! This is the perfect fusion of strength and technique! There’s not the slightest hint of mechanical stiffness—it’s flawless mimicry design!

If my sensors didn’t tell me it was entirely mechanical, I’d swear this was a titan beast clad in steel armor!

And clearly, some kind of advanced force-field disruption circuit is engraved into its fists, causing Mad Wolf’s energy shield to nearly completely fail!”

Commentator A: “Uh… Mad Wolf seems to be trying to create distance, but every step is extremely difficult. Well, he can’t hold on any longer—he’s struggling to retreat to the safe zone, but… oh! Captain Ghost has grabbed the Mad Wolf mech by its hind leg—perfect shoulder throw! Oh! And another one!”

“Bang! Bang! Bang!”

The Ghost Ship swung Mad Wolf around in a full arc and smashed him down repeatedly. Two massive craters instantly formed in the arena floor.

“Bang!”

With that final blow, the once-invincible Mad Wolf mech shattered into scattered debris across the ground…

The arena fell silent once more. This astonishingly brief battle left everyone in profound shock.

No one had imagined that Mad Wolf—ranked 108th in the arena, a terrifying powerhouse—would be struck down by a nameless nobody, and in such a humiliating, completely one-sided defeat.

After a long pause, the commentator finally let out a deep breath.
“Whew… This was an unbelievable match. We have witnessed the birth of a humanoid tyrannosaur, the King of Ground Combat!

“King of Ground Combat! King of Ground Combat!”

Moments later, thunderous cheers and roars erupted skyward throughout the arena…
