The beast tamer exiled from the hero’s party and the cat eared girl from the strongest race meet
The wyvern’s ability ranks at A-minus.
It’s lacking in a few areas, but still…
Since it’s an A-rank, it’s quite a threat.
It can fly around the skies at high speed and attack unilaterally with its breath and such.
Unless you’ve got not just anti-air interception abilities but also excellent defenses, defeating it would be difficult.
I do have a fair bit of confidence…
But letting my guard down is out of the question.
Don’t overestimate my own power—go all out, and handle this swiftly to prevent any casualties.
First things first…
“Alright, go!”
I sent out about ten hawks with whom I had made a provisional contract.
The hawks repeatedly dove at the wyvern, aiming for its eyes.
The wyvern, though clearly annoyed, couldn’t ignore them and hovered in place.
It tried to crush them with its jaws, but its bulk made its movements slow.
The hawks weren’t about to get caught by something like that. They slipped past the wyvern’s attacks and pressed their own again and again.
“Grrruaaaahhhh!!!”
Irritated, the wyvern tried to sweep away the hawks all at once with its breath.
“Not happening!”
I raised both of my Aegises toward the sky.
Then, I fired a barrage of needles.
I succeeded in halting the wyvern’s breath.
“And now… take this too!”
Seizing the moment as its movements stopped, I readied Kusanagi.
I immediately shifted into the second form and scattered twelve blades.
The twelve blades, flying in irregular and rapid patterns, shredded the wyvern’s wings.
“Gwah!?”
Unable to stay aloft, the wyvern plummeted…
Or so I thought. Instead, it only dropped a great deal of altitude, barely avoiding a crash.
Looking closer, I saw the wings I’d just torn apart were slowly beginning to regenerate.
A wyvern with regeneration? That’s news to me…
But for now, I’ll set the questions aside.
In any case, I can’t let this thing reach the city.
The damage it would cause is unthinkable.
Sorry, but I’ll finish you off here.
“Next—this one!”
I fired wires from my Aegis.
Thanks to its lowered altitude, the wires could reach.
The fine steel cords wrapped around its injured wings, binding their movement.
Even if it could heal its wings, it couldn’t rip off the tangled wires.
This time, it truly lost its ability to fly, and the wyvern crashed to the ground.
“Whoa, he brought down a wyvern by himself!?”
“Amazing… I thought only Lord Cassion or Lord Zillor could pull something like that off…”
“As expected of someone Lord Cassion brought along. We can’t fall behind either!”
Watching my battle, the surrounding demons raised their fighting spirit.
It left me with a complicated feeling, spurring on by demons like that…
But well, that too can be thought about later.
For now, I’ll just fulfill my duty properly.
“Gggrrraaaahhh!!!”
Even after being brought down, the wyvern was still alive.
Enraged, it tried to spew its breath everywhere.
But I had already predicted that.
“Keep it up, I’m counting on you!”
The hawks weren’t the only ones I had contracted with.
I had also formed a provisional contract with Reactor Ants—creatures with the ability to interfere with and disrupt the flow of magic.
At my signal, the Reactor Ants swarmed the wyvern all at once.
A wyvern’s breath is much like a spell.
It uses magic as fuel and releases its breath from special organs within its body.
So then—what happens if it can’t use that magic as fuel?
“Guh!?”
Unable to unleash its breath, the wyvern showed a gesture of bewilderment.
It didn’t realize it was the work of the tiny Reactor Ants and kept trying again and again to breathe out.
But all of its attempts failed.
“Grrruuuuhhh… Gahhh!!!”
Now even more enraged, it tried to crush me directly with its own hands.
It raised one massive leg, heavy enough to support its gigantic body, and brought it down on me—but too slowly.
I sidestepped, evading the wyvern’s attack.
The gust from its strike whipped my hair around, but I took no damage.
I slipped into its guard just like that.
Using the wyvern’s knee and shoulder like stepping stones, I dashed all the way up to its head.
The wyvern must have thought it could snap me in half.
It opened its maw wide, lined with jagged fangs—but that was a mistake.
“Summon!”
For this expedition, I had purchased a variety of weapons and tools…
And with the ability I gained through my contract with Iris, I had prepared them so I could summon them at any time.
What I summoned was a bomb, the kind used for blasting in mines.
After lighting its fuse, I tossed it straight into the wyvern’s mouth.
To make sure it couldn’t spit it back out, I bound its jaws shut with Aegis’s wire…
Then I leapt away.
While springing far backward, I controlled Kusanagi’s twelve blades to slash at the wyvern’s legs, completely halting its movement.
And then—
A muffled boom echoed from within the wyvern’s body.
Its huge frame jolted violently.
After a moment, the wyvern collapsed onto its back…
And soon after, its massive body dissolved into a magic stone, proof of its defeat.
“Yes!”
I had won without causing damage and without suffering a single wound.
I really am growing stronger.
I’m beginning to gain the power to protect the people and things I want to protect.
Feeling that truth sink in, I clenched my fist and allowed a small smile to spread across my lips.
