Super Mothership
Wolf Wormhole Starfield.
“Boom!” A Gemini escort ship was ripped open by a massive explosion, and a cyan figure burst out of the wreckage, trailing steel fragments in its wake!
“Whoosh!” The figure spun around and with a sweep of its arm unleashed an arc of ghostly blue light, dozens of meters long. It pierced straight into the hole torn in the ship’s hull, ripping through with unstoppable force, and then exited cleanly through the other side.
The Gemini warship, already torn apart inside by the rampage, could no longer withstand the damage. “Boom! Boom!” Two deafening explosions followed, turning it into fireworks scattered across the void of space.
On the other side, the cyan figure shook off the smoke and slowly revealed its true form… a strange-looking mecha!
Its design bore a resemblance to the death god Anubis from ancient Egyptian myth—jackal’s head, human body, slightly narrow shoulders, and streamlined contours filled with a violent, predatory beauty.
Its main weapons were a pair of crescent-shaped arm blades mounted on its forearms. The energy patterns carved along them glowed faintly, giving the entire mecha an air of mystery.
After destroying one Gemini escort ship, the cyan mecha let out a thunderous blast behind itself—“Boom!”—forming a fan-shaped shockwave that deflected the debris flying toward it. At the same time, the massive thrust propelled the mecha forward like lightning, lunging toward another nearby Gemini warship!
Strangely, the mecha showed no obvious propulsion devices. Only its back bulged slightly, with four mysterious openings flanking its spine. The burst of acceleration seemed to originate from these unknown mechanisms.
Just then, two “Rangers” moved to intercept it, raising their weapons in a blocking stance.
But with only a few zigzagging maneuvers as quick as afterimages, the cyan mecha easily evaded their interception.
Its crescent arm blades flared, the energy lines shining brightly. Two arcs of light flashed, and the two “Rangers” were cleaved cleanly in half, exploding behind the cyan figure like ornaments of fire.
Those arm blades—clearly field-piercing weapons!
This was unmistakably a high-speed assault mecha—its explosive acceleration astonishing, capable of overload maneuvers in speed and agility utterly impossible for Gemini machines!
Relying on its supreme mobility, the cyan mecha weaved through heavy crossfire from more than a dozen anti-air batteries. Like dancing in front of Death itself, it closed in on its target in a dazzling display of risk and skill.
The targeted Gemini warship’s ghostly blue shield suddenly flared brightly, clearly pouring more power into its defenses as danger loomed.
As the mecha charged, its arms crossed before it—then slashed outward!
“Boom!” A cross-shaped arc of light slammed into the shield.
The arc dissipated, but at the impact point, the shield displayed a cross-shaped rupture, like the wound left by an expanding bullet!
The gap wasn’t large compared to the warship’s vast hull, but it was a fatal flaw—the vulnerable interior now lay exposed to enemy blades!
The cyan mecha accelerated again, like a cannonball fired directly at the closing gap!
“Shhh! Shhh! Shhh!” A storm of energy fire rained down, not only from the warship’s cannons but also from nearby mecha racing to intercept.
This time, fortune did not smile on the cyan mecha. Three, four blasts struck it squarely!
Although it crossed its arms to form a semi-arc shield, its design was clearly not built for heavy defense. Caught in the storm of fire from every angle, it was finally torn apart, bursting into a cloud of fragments!
At that moment, the mecha was less than a hundred meters from its target…
The crew of the Gemini warship shouted in relief, thankful to have survived by chance. Yet in the distance, two more cyan mecha surged toward them through the storm of fire…
Yes—what had just happened was only a tiny skirmish in a massive battlefield.
The starfield around the wormhole was ablaze. Across a battlefield stretching tens of thousands of kilometers, lasers fell like rain, the skies aflame with war. Explosions flashed like a million strobe lights.
Countless mecha and fighters clashed in a brutal melee. Everywhere the eye could see lay the wreckage of machines from both sides. In the very heart of the battlefield, nearly a hundred shattered warships drifted—a measure of the battle’s unimaginable ferocity.
Compared to the intensity of the battle here, the fighting inside the neighboring star system was nothing in comparison.
The two warring sides, naturally, were the Gemini civilization and the Wolf civilization.
Just five hours ago, the Wolf launched their largest raid yet against Gemini!
Although Gemini had long been prepared to resist an invasion, this time the Wolf assault was on an entirely different level—catching them off guard.
At this moment, nearly a thousand Gemini warships and countless semi-permanent defensive fortifications were pouring torrents of firepower toward the wormhole.
On the wormhole’s side, more than a dozen enormous golden constructs—like colossal shields of pure gold—were spread across hundreds of kilometers of space.
Behind these golden shields, countless cyan mecha emerged from the wormhole, using the shields as cover. They then scattered in all directions in loose formations, rushing toward the Gemini defenses!
These golden shields boasted extremely formidable defenses, combining both physical and energy resistance.
Their surfaces seemed to generate a powerful deflection field. High-velocity kinetic projectiles, such as electromagnetic slugs, were easily reflected. With an incredibly high melting point, they could also resist field-based energy attacks.
It was thanks to these “siege engines” that the Wolf civilization managed to deploy so many elite mecha here. Using high-speed skirmisher-style assaults, the agile mecha quickly closed with Gemini’s defenses, forcing brutal close-quarters engagements.
Even so, this was Gemini’s home ground. In both firepower and numbers, Gemini held overwhelming superiority.
After several hours of combat, the golden shields were pockmarked with craters from the fortress barrages. Some had even been melted through in several places, their defenses greatly weakened.
The cyan mecha that had broken through achieved remarkable results early on, but they too were gradually hunted down and encircled by Gemini’s superior forces.
The direction of the battle was becoming increasingly clear…
Realizing the situation was hopeless, the Wolf assault units began to ease their offensive. Leaving behind rearguard forces to cover their retreat, the remaining mecha quickly pulled back—hauling the battered golden shields away with them.
At last, as the final golden shield was dragged backward into the wormhole under the escort of cyan mecha, this clash of civilizations ended in a pyrrhic victory for Gemini…
Several million kilometers behind the front, on the Gemini side of the Wolf frontlines, lay the supreme command center—the Dreadnought War-Star!
This was a fully militarized wandering planet, the size of Earth’s moon, its surface scarred everywhere by mechanical and metallic modifications.
Three colossal planetary engines, each spanning over a hundred kilometers across, spewed vast plasma plumes, slowly pushing the War-Star toward the wormhole defense line.
And there weren’t just three—dozens of such engines were distributed across the planet’s surface, providing the War-Star with considerable mobility at any time.
Flanking it on both sides were nearly a hundred escort ships, while on its surface lay over a hundred docked warships of various classes. Swarms of engineering robots bustled like ants, performing repairs and resupply.
Turrets studded the War-Star. Entire weapons production lines had been built into it, along with several large-scale shipyards. Underground hangars housed legions of mecha and fighters, alongside vast reserves of supplies.
In addition, several massive, mysterious war engines of unknown function sprawled across the surface, exuding a sense of sheer might.
If aircraft carriers on Earth were weapons platforms carrying fighters, then the War-Star, forged by the full might of the Gemini civilization, was a super-carrier capable of carrying entire fleets of warships into battle!
This was Gemini’s pinnacle strategic weapon—the civilization’s ultimate war-machine.
By selecting wandering planets of the proper size, Gemini had, in the late stages of its interstellar era, developed a system of cosmic warfare: mobile planetary-scale fleet command hubs.
Planets too large had gravity that hindered fleet deployment and poor mobility; planets too small could not house sufficient forces. A body the size of a moon was optimal.
This particular War-Star, called Dreadnought, was one of only three ever built by Gemini at immense cost.
The other two were named Gemini and Reaper—one permanently guarded the central star system, while the other’s whereabouts remained shrouded in mystery…
TL Note- NGL this chapter was kinda cool....
