Chapter 516: Left-handed Battle

(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)

“It seems I must reduce my reliance on the mechanical bugs, and I also need to place greater emphasis on researching spiritual power…” Nie Yun rubbed his chin.

At the moment, the scale of the mechanical bugs directly determines Nie Yun’s overall strength, so naturally, the more the better.

“As for ways to increase spiritual power… so far, the fastest method seems to be the Water of Life!”

According to the Immortals’ research, the growth of spiritual power—apart from the slow natural increase with experience and age—can also be rapidly enhanced through two methods: intense emotional stimulation in life-or-death situations, or by raising one’s life level with the Water of Life.

Intense stimulation between life and death?

Nie Yun thought about it and immediately dismissed the idea. Clearly, he was more suited to being a quiet, handsome man…

So if he wanted to break through the bottleneck of spiritual power quickly, there was only one method left.

Nie Yun took out a crystal vial. Inside was half a bottle of Water of Life, glowing with a green luminescence, shimmering with an enchanting hue under the light.

This was the same bottle he had obtained earlier in a trade from Rose. Nie Yun had already used up a small portion for experiments; this was what remained.

Since the Immortals were now like “potted plants” on his Sea Wolf ship, a mere bottle of Water of Life was nothing worth fussing over in Nie Yun’s eyes.

If it worked well, Nie Yun even considered having it for breakfast in the future.

The moment the crystal bottle appeared, a little octopus—who had been wandering who-knows-where—suddenly darted out with a whoosh.

“Haha~” Drooling and with green light shining from its eyes, Eight Tentacles stuck out its tongue and stared fixedly at the Water of Life in Nie Yun’s hand.

“Pop~” Nie Yun pulled out the stopper, and Eight Tentacles immediately caught the rich scent of life energy, its expression turning even more intoxicated.

Nie Yun glanced at the little octopus, ignored it, and raised the bottle to pour it into his mouth.

“Pupupu!” The little octopus panicked, and despite the huge difference in strength, it kicked off the ground and shot toward Nie Yun like a blur, attempting a desperate snatch.

“Elastic model for Eight Tentacles established!” In an instant, Nie Yun completed the calculation in his mind.

Then a silver tennis racket suddenly appeared behind Nie Yun. With a powerful swing—

“Smack!” The little octopus’s big face met the racket head-on, deforming in slow motion, and the next moment, it turned into a black blur flying backward.

“Bang, bang, bang…” The black sphere ricocheted seven or eight times around the room before accurately diving into the wide-open mouth of a nearby Silver-Winged Guardian!

“Click!” The faceplate closed.

“Gulp!” At that exact moment, Nie Yun swallowed the last drop of the Water of Life.

The little octopus: “……” (╥﹏╥)

From inside the metal helmet came the faint sound of sobbing…

As the Water of Life entered his body, Nie Yun immediately felt a warm current spreading through his limbs and bones.

“Mmm~” Nie Yun let out a comfortable moan and smacked his lips.

“Not bad. Would’ve been perfect with a fried dough stick.”

If Gemini knew that the Water of Life they regarded as a priceless treasure had been drunk like soy milk by Nie Yun, would they get so jealous they’d start a war?

In just a few minutes, the effects of the Water of Life completely dissipated, leaving Nie Yun feeling refreshed all over.

“If nothing else, this really works as a pick-me-up!” Nie Yun praised.

After sensing a bit more, Nie Yun did a full-body check on himself…

“Without transforming, my physical fitness has improved significantly, but the effect on my transformed state is negligible. As for spiritual power…”

Nie Yun thought for a moment, locked on a target, and tried using the “Psychic Interference” skill. Then he tilted his head to listen.

“Pupupu!” The sobbing from inside the helmet suddenly became even more pitiful…

Skill Name: Psychic Interference (Advanced derivative of Psychic Communication)
Skill Effect: Influences a creature’s mental state.
Normally manifests as amplifying a target’s strong emotions infinitely, guided by consciousness wave resonance principles…

“Casting it feels easier than before… judging by the decibels… hmm! The effect seems stronger too. This method really works!”

The little octopus: “……”

Nie Yun happily made notes in his experiment log, already planning to add a new “daily beverage” to his future menu.

Just then, Codename suddenly spoke:
“Captain, incoming transmission from Isabel!”

“Hmm?” Nie Yun froze for a moment.

Hadn’t they just signed the treaty? Could Gemini be planning to break it so soon?

“It’s for Arthas,” Codename added.

“Uh…” Nie Yun finally realized—aside from playing the Black Butler, he also had to act as Isabel’s subordinate. Too many roles at once—no wonder it took him a second to react.

Switching between two identities really was mentally exhausting…

“Patch it through!” Nie Yun quickly tidied up the scene.

The holo-projection flickered on, revealing Isabel’s figure—though she looked slightly weary.

These past few days, Isabel had been handling the aftermath, filing detailed battle reports to the military, and, on top of that, facing accountability from both the Joint Council and the military for their defeat. She had been utterly swamped, only now finding time to contact Arthas.

“Commander Isabel!” Nie Yun saluted sharply, his expression solemn, with just the right touch of concern.

After all, his own fleet had suffered a major loss—he couldn’t exactly look pleased about it, could he?

Sure, it was a bit much to keep the act up, but hey—Nie Yun had one virtue… professionalism!

“Hmm.” Seeing the concern in Arthas’s eyes, Isabel managed to pull out a tired smile. “The Third Squadron completed its mission well. Next, I have a new assignment for you.”

A new assignment? Nie Yun’s heart stirred at her words.

“Your Excellency fought valiantly on the frontlines. I only regret I couldn’t fight alongside you. I feel deeply ashamed. Please give the order! The entire Third Squadron will fulfill the mission to the last man if necessary!” Nie Yun declared in a firm tone.

Isabel chuckled and waved her hand. “I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you—it’s not a combat mission. The Council has decided on a ceasefire. For now, it’s not suitable to stir up trouble in the Proxima Centauri System.”

Nie Yun relaxed slightly, though he kept a puzzled look on his face. “Then what is my new mission?”

“Negotiation.”

“Negotiation?” Nie Yun blinked.

“Yes. The military wants to learn more about the Ant Empire, especially their recently revealed military technologies. The higher-ups take this very seriously. They hope to obtain related intel through trade with the All things return to One Society—or, ideally, to purchase some of the technology outright, even at a high price.

This negotiation mission is extremely important. We need someone who understands military theory, is eloquent, and is familiar with the All things return to One Society.

After thinking it over, I believe you’re the most suitable candidate.”

Nie Yun immediately understood Isabel’s intention.

Indeed, in terms of military theory, Arthas was a top graduate of a prestigious military academy. As for eloquence, Nie Yun had once verbally crushed Gustav in a debate—his speeches were so persuasive he’d been hailed as a second-generation orator.

And when it came to understanding the All to One Society, Arthas was the number one eyewitness!

Moreover, as a direct victim, he was naturally hostile to them. And who understands you best? Your enemy.

Nie Yun suddenly realized… this mission seemed tailor-made for him!

And he’d just been worrying about finding an excuse to wander near the frontlines. Now, someone had practically handed him a pillow when he was dozing off.

But wait… negotiating with himself? Wasn’t this just left hand versus right hand?

This was going to test his acting skills to the limit!

Still… such a golden opportunity… should he consider signing a treaty that would “sell out the country”?
