The beast tamer exiled from the hero’s party and the cat eared girl from the strongest race meet
The animals in the Demon Realm aren’t all that different from those in the Central Continent.
If anything, perhaps because of the large number of monsters, they’re just a little more cautious.
That much isn’t really a problem.
It’s like dealing with a slightly mischievous child…
With some food as a trade, they were willing to cooperate easily.
And so, after about an hour, we managed to find a demon city.
Sora and Luna cast a spell on us, and we immediately infiltrated, but…
“Miss, take a look at this product! See? It’s a fine item, isn’t it?”
“And you know what? My husband, he’s always lying to me, all the time…”
“Ahahaha! This time it’s my turn to run away!”
Demon merchants cheerfully calling out to customers, middle-aged ladies chatting away, children running around with bright smiles.
It was a scene where the only word that came to mind was “peaceful.”
Or rather… what is this?
“…Hey, Sora.”
“…What is it?”
“…Is this really a demon city? Or is there actually a human town here on the Western Continent?”
“…It should be a demon city.”
Sora’s answer was unconvincing.
She’s probably as bewildered as I am.
The same goes for Luna and Yuki.
They looked just as confused, their expressions awkward and uncertain.
“Oh?”
One of the gate guards noticed us.
He didn’t suddenly attack us or anything like that.
But he didn’t let go of his weapon either, staying somewhat cautious.
“Don’t think I’ve seen you before. Where are you from?”
“Ah, um…”
Crap.
I don’t know the geography of the Demon Realm, so I can’t answer that.
Fine then.
It’s do or die.
“From the west…”
“West?”
I avoided giving a specific location and just answered with a direction…
Was that a mistake?
The guard’s face grew tense.
“…I see, so you escaped from the castle too?”
“Huh?”
“The castle’s been on edge lately. Folks like us low-ranking demons don’t have a place there anymore. The higher demons keep picking on us—it’s rough.”
“Ah, yeah… I see.”
“So, you heard rumors about this town?”
“Yeah, just overheard a little, and then we came here.”
“Must’ve been tough, huh? I’m sure a lot happened, but you can relax here. After all, this city is ruled by Lord Zillor. Even the high-ranking demons can’t easily meddle here.”
Zillor? Who’s that?
I didn’t know, but I nodded so I wouldn’t seem suspicious.
“Ah, yeah… that’s reassuring.”
“Here, take this.”
He handed us palm-sized cards.
Not just to me, but to everyone.
“What’s this?”
“A permit to stay in the city. With this, you can enter and even live here without any trouble.”
“That’s generous, but… is it really okay to hand these out so easily?”
“It’s fine. We can’t abandon comrades in need. Besides, to be honest, this city is new, so we’re short on people. The more the merrier.”
“I see.”
“Anything you want to ask?”
“…I heard a rumor about humans being spotted nearby. Do you know anything about that?”
“Humans?”
