Super Mothership
No one needed to apologize for the death of an “enemy,” and that was true for both sides.
As the Feather Clan fleet advanced, Nie Yun’s remaining force of over a thousand mechs began engaging them in close combat. The scene was like more than a thousand wasps swarming around a large, slow-moving crustacean.
The Feather Clan fleet’s formation was tight, their coordination flawless. The ships supported each other, weaving a dense, three-dimensional anti-air firepower net that shredded any mech trying to break through. For a while, Nie Yun’s mech forces suffered heavy losses.
Even so, plenty of attacks still struck the Feather Clan’s outer warships, sending ripples across their blue shields.
The enemy’s defense was steady and airtight — but like wasps, these mechs carried venom, and enough small stings could still be fatal.
In the close-range brawl, both sides’ accuracy shot up, leading to mutual damage.
Still, judging from the situation, while the mechs’ fierce resistance slowed the Feather Clan’s advance, there was no chance they could actually destroy the enemy. A breakthrough was only a matter of time.
Elsewhere, without the suppressive firepower of the combined-type battleship, the Sea Clan fleet began to stir.
The Immortal’s firepower was fierce, and any Sea Clan breakthrough would come at the cost of some losses — but clearly that alone wasn’t enough to keep them sitting on the sidelines.
Although the Sea Clan’s flagship had been taken out by Isabel without warning, that was an internal matter to settle later. On principle, the Feather Clan had simply eliminated an immediate obstacle, and the Sea Clan had no grounds to accuse Isabel of wrongdoing.
But with Isabel now fully committed to the fight and taking significant damage, if the Sea Clan just stood by and watched, the military high command would surely hold them accountable later.
What’s more, the mech units attacking Nie Yun’s rear included Sea Clan forces — even just to cover their own troops, the Sea Clan fleet had to increase the pressure on the enemy.
A dozen or so Sea Clan vanguard ships accelerated, launching a probing attack.
One thousand kilometers… ten thousand kilometers… a hundred thousand kilometers…
To their surprise, Nie Yun’s combined battleship showed no reaction to their probing. There was no sign it would open fire on them again.
They figured it was too busy dealing with the massive threat from the mechs to worry about them.
That assumption led the small probing attack to grow into a full-scale assault!
To stop the Sea Clan fleet from closing in and threatening its rear line, the Immortal was forced to once again unleash its draining, rapid-fire fortress weapons.
Ignoring the risk of overheating and damaging its main guns, its firepower density jumped another level, the concentrated beams forming nearly straight lines of light — instantly destroying two unlucky warships.
But this time, the Sea Clan did not back down. Braving the Immortal’s ferocious firepower, they continued pushing forward with determination.
The war had reached its most decisive point, and the Sea Clan had no reason to hold back any longer.
Nie Yun had managed to shake the Sea Clan’s morale through various means, but getting them to outright defect was impossible. Reaching this point was already the limit.
In overall strength, the Gemini Alliance still held the advantage, and with both clans now fully committed, Nie Yun’s defensive line was looking dangerously unstable.
Even more dangerous was Nie Yun’s rear, where large numbers of Gemini mechs had closed to a critical distance.
The Gemini pilots switched off their safety locks, raised their weapons, and aimed at the silver combined-type battleship that had remained silent since the start…
But before they could enter firing range, they saw the silver warship begin to move!
Without a sound, twin-mounted gun turrets about three meters long, each of three different designs, rose from various points across the hulls of five Houyi-class ships…
In an instant, the harmless little lamb revealed itself as a big bad wolf baring its fangs!
“Hiss~” — countless sharp intakes of breath came from the mouths of the Gemini pilots.
Some, in sheer panic, instinctively slammed on the brakes, nearly crashing into their allies behind them.
It couldn’t be helped — it wasn’t just that the enemy had revealed its gun barrels, but the sheer number of them was enough to give anyone with trypophobia a psychological shadow!
On each Houyi-class ship, the front, back, sides, top, and bottom were now bristling with turrets. The sadistic designer clearly thought there still wasn’t enough space, so in some places they’d even gone for “stacking turrets” — piling them layer upon layer!
A single glance told you: each warship now carried over a hundred turrets. Every inch of available space for mounting weapons had been filled with all kinds of “styles” of small gun emplacements.
Within the bounds of a scientifically reasonable layout, Nie Yun had somehow created a visual effect straight out of “I’ll kill you three thousand times over.”
“This… this is impossible!” — That was the furious thought roaring in the hearts of almost every Gemini who saw it, Isabel included.
Even front-line soldiers with only a basic understanding of warship architecture could tell that the enemy’s firepower layout was absolutely unscientific!
Normally, once a warship’s design was finalized, it had a clear role.
It could focus on main gun firepower — mounting a terrifying super-cannon for long-range support.
Or it could focus on anti-air — installing numerous multi-angle close-in defense guns to guard the fleet’s airspace.
Or it could prioritize speed — for mobility and rapid repositioning.
In fleet combat, this division of roles was essential.
It was like a custom DIY build — you could install whatever modules you wanted, but you had to remember… the equipment slots are limited!
You can’t have both the fish and the bear’s paw.
You can’t surpass ships of your class in firepower and surpass them in defense and surpass them in speed.
Unless… you really surpass your class entirely — in other words, you’d need vastly greater tonnage!
But judging from the silver warship’s tonnage, there was no way it could mount a massive main cannon and carry this many close-in defense turrets…
That would be like an AWM sniper rifle capable of long-range headshots suddenly switching to S686 shotgun mode for close combat.
The bewildered Gemini officers could only wonder if their own tech level was too low.
Could it just be for show?
But before anyone could finish the thought, the enemy’s ships suddenly blazed with light — one Houyi-class warship unleashed a storm of over a hundred beams from its countless gun ports!
Then the second ship.
Then the third…
If their earlier pentagram formation had been a “Death Revolver,” then this… this was without a doubt a Death Gatling!
…
Of course, Nie Yun’s warship design knowledge wasn’t so advanced that the Gemini couldn’t understand it at all.
What he had done was use the fifteen-minute ceasefire to accomplish something dramatic.
On the surface, the full Mithril fleet looked unchanged — but inside, a complete transformation had taken place.
Vast numbers of mechanical components within the hulls melted like wax, and then the silver liquid metal reformed — completing an astonishing “remelt and recast” in a short time!
Because the assembly blueprint had been prepared long in advance, Nie Yun could switch his combined battleship’s “form” with incredible speed.
Fifteen minutes wasn’t much, but for a creation of the mechanical insects, it was plenty of time to execute one of their special techniques.
Nie Yun had even given this move a name — “Wait a sec! Let me transform first!”
Mechanical Insect: “…” (* ̄︿ ̄)
