A boy who was disowned because he was second in everything, is unknowingly unmatched

Volume 3
Chapter 4-Cleo as seen from Keane.
(TL:By Rafael)

There is a library in the royal capital that is open to the citizens.

In a private room in the library, Keane was reading a book on ancient elven script. The ancient elven script is a collection of old words that have fallen into disuse among the elves.

However, the magic written in them is far more powerful than that of today. If you can learn it, Keane, with his high potential magic power, will be able to become more powerful.

"What about ............ here? Snake, or ......?"(Keane)

I want to help Cleo as much as I can.

With that in mind, the young man worked hard to decipher the literature. However, even he, an elf, could only manage to decipher half of the words.

He had no dictionary and no one to guide him.

It was a different kind of solitary struggle than Erio's.

"........................"(Keane)

Even so, there are still limits to what he can do alone.......

"What? I'm sure I'll be never be  able to figure out why the ancestors created such a difficult language!

At last, Keane shouted out, without being seen by anyone else .

Then he plopped down on the table. He let out a groan and stared at the literature. The many fountains of wisdom seemed like a swamp to the young man now.

So he sighed deeply and was about to destroy his notepad.

 That's when it happened.

"What, you're going to throw it away?"

"Cleo-san!"(Keane)

The boy he looked up to, Cleo, peeked out at him.

He was looking at the note in Keane's hand, his hand on his chin. He nodded a few times and pointed to a spot. And then--

"'Is it the translation here? I think you are misreading the grammar."(Cleo)

"Heh, ......?"(Keane)

He pointed it out in a simple tone.

"And here, too. It means frog, not snake." (Cleo)

He continued to point out the meaning of the word.

Keane read the sentence back to him. He was able to decipher the sentence more clearly than before, although there were some jams.

He was intoxicated with a certain sense of accomplishment.

But soon the young man asked Cleo, "I mean how?" (Keane)

"......, Cleo! Do you understand ancient Elvish?" (Keane)

It was almost at the level of scream, though.

Cleo tilted hiz head slightly and then said, "Uh, yeah." (Cleo)

"Oh, yes. I had a little bite in that, you know?" (Cleo)

"You bit into ancient elvish......?"(Keane)

 He looked somewhat embarrassed.

But that didn't matter to Keane.

"It's amazing that you can read this much! You're like an expert!"(Keane)

 The elf said excitedly.

However, the boy smiled at him.

"Ah, but--"

Cleo said, as if it were a cliché.

"I was second best, you know." (Cleo)

◇◇

“………… What is second place?”(Keane)

(TL:My and my fellow 1000 readers have the same question)

".................."(Keane)

".................." (Erio)

".................."(Maki)

The other two could also only remain silent at Keane's leaked words.

It's no wonder. The boy has great abilities, but he always says so. The three of them, unable to grasp his true intentions, could do nothing about it.

In the end, the conclusion of the three-person meeting tonight was --- "Cleo-san, was odd."

And so the time passed, fruitlessly or not.

The three of us returned to our respective rooms and went to sleep.

The greatness of the boy Cleo and his true nature.

Will there be a time when the whole story will become clear?

At that time, Keen, Elio, and Maki still did not know.
