Chapter 487: Complete Form

(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)

After merging with the sea clan's flagship, the Everliving One began using the planet's gravity to accelerate, departing from Planet Kara and heading toward the nearby star.

A mass of roots floated behind it, making the Everliving One resemble a colossal squid. Though the sea clan’s flagship was a kilometer long, beside the Everliving One it seemed as tiny as a sesame seed next to a watermelon.

Planet Kara grew smaller and smaller in the Everliving One’s field of vision. Even this ancient tree demon, known for its calm, couldn’t help but feel a wave of sentimentality.

“I never thought that within my lifetime, I’d truly escape this planetary prison that has trapped me for a thousand years, and return to the universe…”

“That’s the power of teamwork. Only through the combined strength of our three factions could we create such a possibility in the face of despair. But… it seems you still need some time to adapt to space,”

Nie Yun’s voice came through via telepathic communication.

The Everliving One was indeed in poor condition. With the surrounding temperature rapidly dropping, over 70% of the body on its sun-shielded side had developed a thin layer of frost, which was slowly spreading to other parts of the body.

This was the result of water molecules naturally released from its cells freezing in the low temperatures.

Meanwhile, the sun-facing side was absorbing heat and light from the nearby star, with surface temperatures exceeding 100°C.

This extreme contrast of fire and ice was a harsh test for any living organism.

Before the looming threat of the Twin Stars arrived, the harsh environment of space had already become the Everliving One’s next challenge.

“My current state is already far better than I expected—thanks entirely to your miraculous modifications, Boss. Without them, I fear I wouldn’t have been able to take even half a step off Planet Kara.”

The Everliving One spoke with deep respect.

A planetary plant, no matter how powerful, adapting instantly to a vacuum environment was no simple feat.

Had it fully drained Planet Kara’s core energy and evolved over several more millennia, perhaps the Everliving One could have entered space on its own and become a true cosmic plant. But for now, it still had a long way to go.

In truth, it was forced into the evolutionary stage of a space organism before it had fully matured—no wonder it was experiencing such environmental incompatibilities.

Even if it could survive briefly in space, prolonged exposure would lead to its swift withering and death due to environmental stress.

Nie Yun’s modifications didn’t just turn it into a mechanized space fortress—he also transformed it biologically.

Part of these internal changes were to help it integrate with its semi-mechanized body, and the rest were aimed at ensuring it could endure long-term space travel.

How to maintain internal body temperature in a vacuum?
How to improve air-tightness and prevent material loss?
How to keep metabolic cycles functioning normally?
How to preserve cellular vitality in freezing conditions?
How to absorb energy and nutrients in the absence of atmosphere?

In all these areas, biologists from both the Kara civilization and Earth collaborated, offering Nie Yun a wealth of suggestions. It was even the first academic exchange between scholars of the two civilizations.

Once the blueprints were complete, it was time for the mechanical insects to shine!

They removed organs useless in space, remodeled tissues, and if necessary, simply manufactured fully mechanical substitute organs inside the body.

As the silver tide of mechanical bugs swept through, the Everliving One’s internal systems were refined as though its energy pathways were cleared—its circulatory systems became more efficient, and its overall functionality reached new levels.

For example, its inefficient bio-energy system was completely overhauled by Nie Yun. Now, its body contained extensive superconducting energy conduits, one super-energy crystal furnace, eight ultra-large and sixteen large nuclear fusion reactors powering it.

As long as fuel was available, this massive energy supply not only powered the fortress’s many weapons but also met over 60% of the Everliving One’s daily energy needs—including the enormous consumption required to generate the "Water of Life."

At this point, the Everliving One was practically a semi-mechanical space organism. The mechanical insects acted like maintenance workers aboard a colossal biological battleship, patching up all its weaknesses piece by piece.

Having witnessed Nie Yun’s wondrous abilities and feeling its ever-growing strength, the Everliving One had no shame in calling him “Boss.”

As a tree demon who had survived for over a thousand years, the Everliving One had internalized the law of the jungle—where the strong rule and the weak perish. It was a staunch pragmatist who only respected power.

Nie Yun had helped it escape to space, fulfilled its centuries-long dream, eliminated the threat from the Twin Stars, and made it stronger—all while promising not to limit its growth.

Where else could one find such a good boss?

Of course, the most undeniable reason was… the ever-growing number of mechanical insects inside its body.

They could function as precision surgical tools—or become a deadly plague that controlled its very life and death.

As the saying goes, “A wise man submits to circumstances.” Before finding a way to deal with the "Monkey King" in its belly, the Everliving One had completely admitted defeat.

It then glanced at the obedient Twin Star warship trailing behind it...

The battle in Planet Kara’s orbit had naturally been seen by the Everliving One. Witnessing the sheer depth of its boss’s strength—able to toy even with the mighty Twin Stars—it knew better than to provoke him. Absolutely untouchable!

“Although the trial voyage was a success, based on your current material reserves, you probably won’t last long. Next… we’ll see whether the Water of Life is really as miraculous as they say,” Nie Yun said with anticipation.

After all, the mechanical bug modifications were a form of forced evolution—an accelerated shortcut done under pressure. With time so short, the upgrades were far from perfect.

While they could maintain basic survival in the short term, the Everliving One was constantly self-repairing to keep its internal systems functioning. This consumed resources at several times—sometimes dozens of times—the rate back on Planet Kara.

If this situation continued, forget battle or long-range travel—it would simply die en route.

If that happened, the space fortress Nie Yun had placed so much hope in would become nothing more than a frozen specimen… and the Twin Stars would probably laugh about it for the next decade.

“Of course! I would never disappoint you, Boss!” the Everliving One replied confidently.

As a seasoned expert in evolution, the Everliving One had a wealth of experience in adapting to new environments.

If the scientists’ transformation plans were theory-based, then the Everliving One’s millennia of survival and natural selection instincts were pure, practical experience!

A large amount of Water of Life was mobilized, flowing to every part of the Everliving One’s body. Wherever the mysterious radiating energy passed, tissues and cells began to rapidly evolve and optimize!

The outer skin mutated into denser cellular structures. New-generation fibrous cells formed with stronger insulation capabilities. Chlorophyll capable of resisting intense radiation began appearing within some of the tissues...

As it traveled through space, the Everliving One purposefully selected the most adaptable evolutionary cells for the current environment, cultivating and expanding them to gradually replace its original body tissue.

Its vast stores of nutrients were being consumed at high speed, and energy consumption spiked dramatically. In exchange, its metabolic rate exploded.

Humans replace all their cells roughly once every seven years—but the Everliving One, through its exceptional control over its body, was compressing that process by hundreds or even thousands of times.

Its massive form slowly drifted closer to the burning star—while inside, it was undergoing a complete metamorphosis.

The roots it once used to absorb magma and nutrients began to atrophy and shrink. Meanwhile, the once-withered treetop started to spread again, even sprouting green leaves...

Nie Yun’s choice to move toward the star wasn’t just to use its gravity for a slingshot acceleration—he also intended to complete the final transformation of the Everliving One before facing off against the Twin Stars’ fleet.

He would use the Water of Life, accumulated over centuries, to push the Everliving One into its final form

To become a true cosmic lifeform.
