Chapter 269: The Fallen Hero
(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)
In the lightless dungeon beneath the king's castle, Arios was present.
Although Arios had been thrown into prison before, the situation was completely different from that time.
Each person was assigned to a cell, completely isolated from their companions...
Furthermore, three magical restraints were placed, sealing their powers completely.
Chained in that state, even the freedom of their bodies was restricted.
"Damn it, damn, damn, damn...! What is this!? Why does a hero like me have to suffer like this!"
Even robbed of his freedom, Arios continued to vent his grievances.
Why did he end up in such a situation?
Why was he being treated like this?
Although it was all his own fault...
Without understanding that, and of course, without reflecting on it.
He just howled about the unfairness.
It was almost childlike.
Getting scolded for mischief...
But without reflecting, sulking.
Arios's current state was exactly that, nothing had changed.
"Aggus! Lin! Mina!"
Calling the names of his companions, but there was no response.
And rightly so.
To be cautious, Arios and his companions were imprisoned in separate locations.
"Can't you hear!? Aggus! Lin! Mina! With your power, can't you somehow break these restraints!? Are you listening!?"
Relying on his companions' strength, Arios wanted to escape, but there was no response.
Moreover...
Even if his companions were in this place, they might not be able to respond.
Or, they might have chosen not to.
Even though the companions followed Arios and engaged in arrogant actions...
When considering the basics, everything originated from Arios.
Arios's thoughtless actions involved his companions... and as a result, they fell.
Would you lend power to such Arios?
Would you continue to trust him as before?
Even a child could understand this, but Arios didn't realize it.
He could only conveniently call out his companions' names.
"... Pitiful, Arios."
"You...!"
Suddenly, Argus was in front of the cell.
It seemed more like he came to check the situation than to talk.
"Have you cooled your head?"
"Release me right now! I am a hero! I don't remember receiving such treatment!"
"Hmm... it seems like even experiencing this much, you haven't learned anything."
"I haven't done anything wrong!"
"Is it right to try to frame an innocent person and kill several adventurers for that? Even during the demon incident in the Southern Continent, there's no clear evidence, but I hear you killed one adventurer. You seem to have done various things without thinking, huh?"
"Guh..."
Overwhelmed by the pressure emanating from Argus, Arios couldn't say anything.
"There's something to tell you today."
"...What is it?"
"The day to judge your sins has been decided. It's the day after tomorrow."
"What...!?"
Arios was shocked.
He didn't believe the word "execution" spoken by Argus.
Because, he had received similar warnings many times before.
However, Argus had never seriously punished him...
All ended in attempts or significantly reduced sentences.
Therefore, he thought there would be no execution this time either.
Just a threat.
Thinking so, he was relieved.
However, now... Argus was serious.
"Ar-are you serious!? I am a hero...!"
"Still talking like that. I've revoked your hero qualifications. Now, you're just a fool."
"This is absurd..."
"You have time until the day after tomorrow. Until then, face your sins and reflect even a little."
Argus turned his back and left.
Without stopping him, Arios was left dumbfounded.
――――――――――
"Why... why is this happening?"
Arios crouched, holding his head.
The words of the death penalty conveyed by Argus wouldn't leave his mind.
Even though he was a hero.
Even though he was revered by all people.
Even so, why...
"That's right, it's Rain. Everything went crazy because of him, became strange... it's Rain's fault. It's definitely his fault!"
No matter how you looked at it, it was nothing but a grudge, but Arios, in his current state, couldn't be reached with reasonable words. He continued to express his hatred towards Rain as if casting a curse, letting the animosity grow.
Making someone an enemy to avert one's eyes from the sins they committed. It was the method of escaping reality that Arios had employed so far.
"Damn it, damn it all! Damn, damn, damn it! I can't end like this, not me! I won't let it end like this, not in a place like this!!!"
He lost to Rain twice. His pride was shattered into pieces, and he was imprisoned in a miserable cell.
It's all Rain's fault.
He couldn't die without avenging this resentment. He had to counterattack.
"That's right, I'm right... I'm absolute. That's why Rain has to cry and beg for forgiveness!"
At the moment when he burned the flames of hatred to the maximum,
"What...?"
With a thud, the watchful knight collapsed. Curious, a familiar figure appeared.
"Monica...!"
"Shh... Please don't raise your voice, Lord Arios."
Monica whispered, then searched the fallen knight's body and took the key to the cell. She used it to open Arios's cell.
"I'm sorry for being late. I came to rescue you."
"You're going to help me...?"
"Yes, of course. The rescue of the others has already been completed."
"I see... you did well. As expected of Monica, reliable as always."
"No. I only move for the sake of Lord Arios."
"However, the king calls me a traitor... What will happen next?"
"Please rest assured about that. I have someone very reliable. Now, Lord Arios... Shall we go to where the others are together?"
Monica said so with a smile.
A terribly distorted smile.
TL Note- If I had to give some justification of Arios's action(I wanna give it a try) just say he is a girl and the king will kill the hero after the war with demon King is over( that was a little dark)
