Chapter 480: Contingency Plan

(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)

What lay before the Alpha Squad captain was a choice of fate… to jump or not to jump?

If he didn’t jump, it would be completely out of place with the current “heroic self-sacrifice” atmosphere. He would almost certainly end up being beaten by the surrounding forces. Judging by the snarling fangs of the countless hunter troops around him, his end would likely be quite gruesome.

But if he jumped… seeing that decomposition fluid that didn’t even leave behind bone fragments, he had little confidence his powered armor could hold out for even a few seconds.

As he drew closer and closer to the biochemical decomposition pool, anxiety welled up in his heart, and he quickly scanned the terrain around him…

No, he couldn’t just sit and wait for death!

With a flip of his palm, a round metallic sphere was tossed forward into the formation ahead.

Ding ding ding... A series of soft metallic clinks was drowned out by the chaotic footsteps of the hunters—no one noticed the action.

Five seconds later...

“Boom!” A massive fireball suddenly erupted near the biochemical pool, and the shockwave sent the surrounding hunter troops flying. Dozens of hunters at the blast center were instantly blown to pieces.

Pretending to be caught in the explosion, the Alpha captain used the blast’s force to leap backward. Mid-air, he rapidly flung five or six more metal spheres in both directions.

The surrounding hunter units, startled by the explosion, scattered to investigate, and chaos rippled through the ranks.

Just then, the five or six previously thrown metal spheres opened with a “click”, revealing intricate internal mechanisms.

“Vmmm!” A faint mechanical vibration followed, and a strange infrasound pulse rapidly spread out…

All the hunters paused slightly, looking around in confusion.

“Vmmm! Vmmm! Vmmm!” With each pulse of a specific frequency, the hunter troops began to lose coherence.

Some tried to retreat, others attempted to advance, and some even entered combat stances. Chaos erupted as the hunters began to scatter and roar wildly.

These were simulation disruptors, crafted by the Twin Star military using sonic command signals collected from the battlefield on Kara. By mimicking the control frequencies of the hunters, they could disrupt the enemy's command system.

But the chaos would only be temporary. Once the true controller of the hunters noticed the situation, they could quickly reassert control. The captain didn’t have much time.

Using both hands and feet, he mimicked a hunter’s crawling posture and weaved through the chaos, charging toward a pre-selected underground tunnel.

“Silence!!” Suddenly, a sharp female voice rang out.

All the hunter troops immediately shuddered, then slowly crouched down with utmost submission, unmoving even as the simulation infrasound continued to pulse.

The captain of Alpha Squad instantly sensed something was wrong the moment the voice rang out, and when he saw the hunters’ obedient behavior, he knew the situation had taken a dire turn.

To run now would be far too conspicuous!

But he clenched his teeth and didn’t stop—instead, he shot forward like an arrow from a bow. His thrusters roared to maximum power, skimming the ground as he raced toward the tunnel entrance.

At the same time, his disguise was forcefully broken. After a flicker of shifting light and shadow, his black mechanical armor was fully exposed.

Even if he lay down like the hunter troops and continued pretending, the enemy now knew an intruder had infiltrated. A thorough search was inevitable, and that would be suicide.

Leaving fate to luck? That was not the Alpha Squad way.

Fortunately, the tunnel entrance wasn’t far now—there was still a chance!

As long as he could dive into the tunnel before the enemy reacted, he could use the terrain for cover. With the speed of his armor, even if the enemy had more hunters, he was confident he could shake them off.

Once he escaped the underground, he could immediately call for orbital fire support from his side!

Even though his exposure might alert the enemy, if he could get this valuable intel back, Alpha Squad’s mission would be halfway complete.

800 meters… 500 meters… 300 meters…

As the tunnel entrance drew closer, the captain’s expression only grew more serious—an uneasy feeling surged in his chest.

A battle-hardened veteran, his combat instincts were razor-sharp. The scent of danger in the air made him instantly command his powered armor to roll sharply to the right!

But he was still a split second too late.

“Bang!” With a dull impact, his left shoulder slammed into what felt like an invisible barrier. The sudden collision disrupted his flight posture, sending him tumbling uncontrollably through the air.

“Bang! Bang bang!” Like a skipping stone, he bounced and skidded across the ground, carving a long scrape in the surface as his momentum gradually slowed.

Dizzy and disoriented from the spinning, the Alpha Squad captain had no time to check what he’d just hit. He didn’t wait for his body to come to a complete stop—once his blurry vision locked onto the tunnel entrance just within reach, he activated all his limbs with superior balance and dove headfirst into it with a clean, low roll.

As he plunged into the tunnel, still shaken, he twisted his head for one last look—and saw a massive tree face, with two enormous eyes slowly opening...

...

Meanwhile...

“Damn it! A Twin Star spy actually snuck in under my nose—get after him!” Rose’s expression turned grim as she watched the intruder escape right before her eyes.

“No need to chase him, Your Majesty,” said the “Magic Sword” at Rose’s waist, suddenly speaking on its own. “The intel he got is now meaningless to Twin Star. Our people are in position—we can begin the operation.”

“You’re sure the plan will succeed? I’m still a bit worried…” Rose's face showed a flash of concern upon hearing that the operation was about to commence.

After all, this was the last hope of the Kara civilization!

“Relax. This super treehouse is worth more than your entire faction right now. If the plan fails, our loss will be much greater than yours.”

Rose: “……”

Although that was oddly reassuring… something still felt off.

“If you’re still uneasy, I can tell you our contingency plan in case of failure. We usually call it… Plan B,” the Magic Sword said with a cheerful tone.

“Oh? You even have a contingency?” Rose perked up, her face brightening.

This ally… surprisingly dependable!

“Of course. 'Act only after thorough planning, prepare for defeat before seeking victory'—that’s the basic philosophy of our Strategic Planning Department.”

Nie Yun wasn’t bluffing—he’d even prepared contingency plans for the End of Humanity: Final Chapter...

“What exactly is this contingency?” the Eternal One asked, curious as well.

“Well! If this plan fails, then the Eternal Ones and the entire Kara civilization are basically doomed. So, I took precautions long ago and collected your genetic information in advance.

If you all perish heroically, I’ll be sure to clone you back to life!”

Clone...

Back to life…

Life…

Rose: “……”

Eternal One: “……”

Mech bugs: “……” (* ̄ω ̄)
