Super Mothership
Only after the Gemini fleet collectively completed its turn and activated their forcefield shields did the second strike from the Hou Yi-class frigate arrive—albeit belatedly!
"Boom!" Spear clashed with shield, and the shield value of the second targeted frigate plummeted rapidly!
By the time the attack ended, the blue eggshell-like shield around the warship had become so transparent it was barely visible, leaving the crew inside drenched in cold sweat.
However, this Gemini fleet was well-trained. The nearest allied ship immediately maneuvered laterally, placing itself in front of the endangered ally to buy time for its shield to recover.
Inside the flagship, the commander was shocked by what he saw. That kind of range, such terrifying firepower, and even the main cannon's cooldown was so short?
Even the main cannon on their most powerful "Aegis-class" frigate likely didn’t have such formidable performance.
Just what kind of warship was this uniquely designed vessel?
The Hou Yi-class frigate was indeed Nie Yun’s most advanced technological creation to date, representing the pinnacle of his shipbuilding capabilities. Strategic resources like mechanical bug materials and energy crystals were poured into it without reservation.
Its primary shielding, main cannon, and propulsion technologies were a fusion of the best from Earth’s civilization, the Ant Civilization, and the Gemini Civilization—personally synthesized by Nie Yun through extensive computational effort. It was undoubtedly the most powerful combat platform Nie Yun could field!
Nie Yun had previously gone to great lengths to conceal his true strength, simply because the power disparity between him and the Gemini was too vast. No matter how capable he was, a few dozen warships could never take on the enemy’s massive cosmic fleets numbering in the thousands.
That’s why all of Nie Yun’s strategic planning had revolved around stealth and infiltration, relying on wormhole-based defenses for the frontlines.
But times had changed!
In the rear, Nie Yun’s sub-bases across the solar system were undergoing frenzied development, with infrastructure projects proceeding at full speed. As a result, Nie Yun’s industrial capacity had surged dramatically!
These bases were like seeds sown far and wide, and now—with the backing of billions of available human resources—they were beginning to yield a rich harvest for Nie Yun.
In terms of quality, Nie Yun had mithril warships, whose performance rivaled even the high-end forces of the Gemini.
In terms of quantity, warships, mechas, and other military products were rolling off the production lines within the solar system and being sent continuously to the wormhole front.
Even though the Gemini still had superior territory and deeper foundations, Nie Yun could now confidently go head-to-head with an enemy force the size of a pioneer legion!
A stable and rapidly developing rear base—this was the source of Nie Yun’s newfound confidence to gradually reveal his true strength and seize greater benefits from neighboring star systems!
This shift in the balance of power also led to a change in Nie Yun’s strategic posture.
“If the enemy is many and we are few, if they are strong and we are weak—raise many banners, light many fires, and appear strong!”
In the past, he had deliberately appeared weak to lower perceived threat. But now, he had to appear strong!
Not only would he use the façade of the Unity Sect and the Ant Empire to conduct strategic intimidation, but he would also unleash superior combat capabilities to force the enemy into submission—making the Gemini think twice about starting a war by weighing the possible devastating consequences.
With the Woolf civilization’s wormhole expansion becoming increasingly erratic and tensions escalating, Nie Yun believed the Gemini would not willingly entangle themselves in a two-front war.
This battle was Nie Yun's first sword thrust, delivered directly and boldly to the Gemini!
The third wormhole offensive and defensive war—roles reversed!
After the Hou Yi-class frigate launched two rounds of attacks, Earth’s first wave of mecha forces that had burst through the wormhole also began their offensive against the Gemini fleet.
A total of over a hundred mechas in the first echelon were organized into dozens of small squads, each consisting of three units. They split into eight directions, forming a curved fan-like arc in a semi-encirclement formation as they scattered and charged toward the Gemini fleet.
As this wave of mechas engaged, even more units surged out of the wormhole, continuously joining the vanguard. These formed the second and third waves of the attacking force.
The Gemini fleet wasn’t slow to respond either. Some warships began deploying onboard mechas and drones in succession.
“Boom!” A small carrier ship, just in the process of releasing mechas, was hit again by the Hou Yi-class frigate!
These small carriers were far less protected than frigates, as their primary role wasn’t frontline combat.
The ship’s forcefield shield barely lasted two seconds before it overloaded. The aftermath of the gamma-ray cannon gouged a long, vicious scar down the warship’s side, visibly destroying two or three launch tubes and burning out multiple internal systems. Thick black smoke billowed from within.
Some unlucky Raider-class mechas had just been launched when they were caught in the residual blast—instantly annihilated in the energy torrent.
On the other side, the Gemini officers were stunned and horrified.
“It actually broke the shield in one hit? That’s some terrifying firepower!”
“And wait—three main cannon blasts in three minutes? That rate of fire… is this cheating?”
Gamma rays, also known as γ-particle streams, are released during nuclear energy level transitions. Their wavelengths are shorter than 0.01 Ångström, and frequencies exceed 150 quintillion hertz. They are incredibly penetrating, high-energy electromagnetic photons.
In the cosmos, gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are among the most powerful events in existence—caused by neutron star collisions, supernova explosions, and the birth of black holes.
To give an idea: if the Sun went supernova and emitted a gamma-ray burst, it could vaporize Earth instantly.
Gamma rays are even more devastating than regular lasers. Even in interstellar warfare—where weapons often annihilate air, land, and sky in seconds—gamma-ray weapons are considered super-heavy artillery.
In terms of theory, gamma rays aren't difficult to produce—even Earth’s technology can make generators. But weaponizing gamma rays poses huge challenges: the cannons are massive, require exotic materials, and place enormous strain on a warship’s power systems.
One shot from a gamma-ray cannon consumes 7–8 times more energy than a standard Gemini main gun. A typical frigate firing such a weapon would see its power lines fried before it could even finish the shot.
Even the technologically advanced Gemini can only mount such cannons on cruiser-class or larger warships—and each shot requires a long cooldown.
Material science remains the biggest bottleneck to practical gamma-ray weapons.
But here’s the twist: Nie Yun, with his mechanical bug technology, has always relied on advanced materials to stay ahead—dragging all his other tech forward with it.
Using his entire technological arsenal, Nie Yun finally mounted this superweapon onto his own frigate-class warships.
And today’s small-scale live test? A glowing success. Three shots—one ship destroyed, one severely damaged. That kind of result? Absolutely brilliant.
The trade-off? The Hou Yi-class frigate couldn’t carry other weapons. Even close-in defense was extremely weak. If the enemy got in close, its combat strength would be cut in half.
But on this kind of battlefield, where long-range dominance mattered most, it had been used to perfection.
The Gemini fleet’s commander clearly recognized the threat posed by this new warship. But hampered by their inferior range, they had no choice but to order their ships to accelerate—trying to close the distance and negate the enemy’s advantage.
Unfortunately, the Earth mecha forces had already penetrated the Gemini fleet’s defensive perimeter.
And once so many mechas were in close quarters, even the mighty Gemini fleet would be in serious trouble.
"Whoosh!" “Whoosh!"
The Gemini warships began opening fire, and a large number of Raider-class mechas rushed forward to intercept the Earth Federation’s mecha units. The wormhole battlefield instantly erupted into chaos and fire.
At this very moment, Gustav had only just received the urgent intel that the wormhole was under attack...
...
Watching the real-time battle footage streaming back from the wormhole front, Gustav’s face was as dark as the bottom of a pot.
“Can someone tell me what the hell is going on? Who’s in charge of this operation? Find him and execute him right now! I said, execute him!!” Gustav roared in fury.
They were supposed to have the home field advantage around the wormhole, reinforced with a solid defensive line of fifteen warships!
With that kind of firepower coverage, the enemy would’ve had to sacrifice at least a dozen or two ships just to break through. How could they possibly storm Proxima so easily?
But what was he seeing now?
Only fourteen of their ships remained, and one of them was virtually out of commission! Meanwhile, the enemy was flooding Proxima space with mechas, freely and confidently. From the looks of it, they’d already deployed nearly 300 units!
This was a perfect hand of cards—played like an idiot.
Did we get paired with a team of pigs?
But in his blind rage, Gustav failed to notice the strange expression on the face of his adjutant standing behind him. The adjutant had just read a message marked as a request for "tactical guidance." After seeing who it was from, his face turned increasingly strange…
What the hell… are spies nowadays all dramatic method actors or what...?
Should I arrest him on the spot?
