Chapter 462: The Attacker

(TL:By Rafael,valhallatls.blogspot.com)

The noisy fireworks celebrations around gradually came to an end. At 11 PM, outside the Chu family’s villa.

A four-wheeled electric cart with a property management logo was stopped by two black-clad security guards on duty.

"Brothers, I’m from the property management office. There was an electrical alarm in the neighborhood just now. We're here to urgently inspect the power box,"
said a middle-aged man sitting in the cart, speaking with a thick Northeastern accent. His skin was dark, and he had an honest, simple appearance, speaking without any nervousness.

The residents of this neighborhood were all either rich or powerful, so such a heavy security presence was nothing unusual to them.

Now, a large area surrounding the Chu family’s villa had been designated as a special security zone, with strict inspections for anyone entering or leaving.

Atlantis Corporation owned 50% of Chu Group’s shares, and the Chu Group was also Atlantis' first known partner. Such a special relationship naturally attracted attention from various forces.

Adding to that, the feud between the Ghost Captain and the Sunfire Group meant that anyone investigating could easily uncover the grudge between the Sunfire Group and the Chu Group.

Once might be coincidence, but twice?

The vague connection between the Chu Group and the Ghost Captain had been noticed by many forces after some investigation during this period.

And as Atlantis Corporation’s influence grew stronger, the Chu mother and daughter — an important link to the Ghost Captain — naturally received special protection from the state.

In the eyes of General Hu and the top core leadership of Zhonghua (China), Chu Xiaoxiao had even been mistakenly believed to be the Ghost Captain’s "illegitimate daughter."

The outside world believed the Ghost Captain’s "heart" to be some kind of miraculous artifact that could grant immortality, or perhaps a key component from an ancient spaceship.

But why couldn’t it simply be the Ghost Captain’s "precious beloved"?

Due to this peculiar misunderstanding, General Hu spared no effort in ensuring the safety of the Chu mother and daughter, deploying a crack team to guard them. Ordinary people couldn’t even get close to the Chu villa.

"Electrical malfunction?"
Hearing their explanation, the black-clad security team leader cautiously opened his earpiece communicator.
"Xiao Si, check with the property management office — see if there’s any emergency electrical repair."

Soon after, a confirmation reply came through the walkie-talkie.

"So late and still doing inspections — you’re working hard, brother," said the black-clad security team leader, giving a subtle signal to his companion. The other guard immediately began scanning the vehicle and personnel with a detector.

"No trouble at all! This concerns the electrical system — it’s no small matter. A fault could cause a fire. Doesn’t matter if it’s this late, even if they called us at midnight, we’d have to be here within ten minutes!"
The man cooperatively spread his arms for inspection, even taking the chance to praise the thoughtful service of his property management office.

Beep! Beep!
The detector gave a warning signal — the source was the two toolboxes placed on the back seat.

All the security personnel, both those in the open and those hidden, immediately became alert, their gazes locking onto the toolboxes.

The guard in charge of inspection carefully opened and checked the toolboxes. Inside were just some ordinary metal tools like wrenches and screwdrivers, along with a few instruments for testing electrical circuits.

Having been specially trained, the guard carefully verified that these tools weren’t modified weapons and that the toolboxes had no hidden compartments.
After confirming everything was normal, he nodded at the security team leader.

Hearing there was nothing unusual, the team leader felt a little disappointed.

Lately, spies trying to gather intelligence had been coming one after another — fake repairmen, plumbers, salesmen — they had already caught enough to form a basketball team.

And there was a reward for catching spies — not only did the military issue bonuses, but the Chu mother and daughter were also extremely generous.

It seemed there would be no chance to make extra money tonight…

Seeing the inspection was complete, the repairman picked up the toolbox, ready to head inside — only to be stopped again by the security team leader.

"Brother, no need to trouble yourself. We have our own professional electricians here. You can head back and rest."
Since he wasn't a spy, the team leader's tone was fairly polite.

"What?"
The repairman clearly froze in shock.
After all that inspection, now they wouldn’t even let him in?
Were they just messing with him?

"Routine procedures, brother, thanks for understanding!"
The security team leader gestured with a polite wave.

Honestly, even our plumbers and cleaning ladies are former special forces from the national security bureau.
If you want to sneak in here, you better spend a few years training with national security first!

"No, come on, big brother, give me a break! If I don’t complete the inspection task, I’ll get punished," the repairman immediately put on a bitter face.

"Sorry. Please leave," the security team leader said sternly, showing no leniency.

Not only that — just attempting to enter the Chu villa today would trigger a full background investigation by the intelligence department tomorrow.

Such tight security left absolutely no cracks for foreign spy organizations to exploit.

"Then… then at least let me make a call to report," the repairman said anxiously, quickly pulling out his phone and dialing a number.

"Hello, boss, here’s the situation…"
The repairman, looking miserable, explained his predicament over the phone — but whoever was on the other end didn't seem sympathetic.

"No… no! Boss, it’s not that I don’t want to work, it’s just… they really won’t let me in!"
The repairman nervously explained, glancing at the two guards radiating an intimidating aura.
He carefully moved a little further away to complain in a quieter voice.

The guards noticed he was walking away from the villa, so they didn’t pay much attention.
But the experienced security team leader felt a faint sense of unease.

His eyes swept over the electric cart still parked in place — and suddenly, his heart skipped a beat.

"Hey! You—"
The security team leader started to shout, but before he could finish, he saw the repairman suddenly dive forward onto the ground.

"Danger!"

The security team leader truly lived up to his reputation as a king of soldiers.

Years of surviving on the edge of life and death had honed his instincts to a razor’s edge — sensing imminent danger, he didn’t immediately reach for his gun.
Instead, he turned and tackled his companion to the ground.

Boom!
A massive explosion erupted — the electric cart instantly turned into a fireball, exploding with a deafening roar.

Pfft!
Even though they had taken evasive action, the security team leader and his companion were simply too close.
The shockwave slammed into them violently, causing them to cough up blood on the spot.

Just before losing consciousness and falling into darkness, a thought flashed rapidly through the team leader’s mind:

We checked the cart — why was there still a bomb?

Then it hit him — the two toolboxes on the back seat had seemed fine.
The real problem... was hidden under the seat!

Realizing the crucial mistake, the security team leader could hold on no longer and finally passed out.

His guess was dead-on.
From the start, the attackers had hidden a micro-bomb beneath the back seat of the cart, cleverly using the two toolboxes as a distraction to fool the detectors!

Since electric carts were never supposed to actually enter the villa area, the guards only performed a rough inspection on the cart itself — unlike the meticulous check they gave the toolboxes.
This slight negligence became the loophole the enemy exploited.

The attackers had known from the beginning that they wouldn’t be able to sneak into the villa.
The whole "electrical inspection" act had been nothing more than a cover.
They weren't trying to infiltrate — they were launching a raid!

After the explosion, the scene was left in ruins.
The two security guards lay collapsed on the ground, while the hidden security forces inside the villa — alerted by the loud blast — immediately rushed toward the site.

Meanwhile, the fake repairman calmly stood up, dusted the soot from his clothes, and curled his lips into a cold, sinister smile.
He lifted his hand and waved forward.

From the surrounding darkness, more than a dozen black-clad figures emerged slowly.

Their black powered exoskeletons gleamed coldly under the firelight, and they all wore eerie skull-patterned tactical helmets — the whole scene looked chilling and surreal.

These powered suits were somewhat bulky — far less refined than the "Mithril Knights" — but even so, the technology behind practical powered exoskeletons remained among the top tier of Earth’s modern science, absolutely not something ordinary forces could access.

As the attackers emerged, they drew heavy weaponry:
some wielded shoulder-mounted rocket launchers, others carried six-barrel Gatling guns, and some even held cutting-edge beam rifles.

Due to Nie Yun's strict restrictions on military tech exports, civilian technology on Earth had advanced by leaps and bounds, but military technology remained heavily lagging behind.

Still, despite the delay, the boundary between civilian and military tech wasn’t so clear-cut — a lot of civilian advancements had greatly boosted military capabilities.
This kind of sci-fi-looking gear was rapidly becoming part of everyday military forces on Earth.

The security guards who had just rushed to the scene turned pale when they saw the sight before them.

They were just carrying out routine security duties.

Even though they could have anticipated that the enemy might possess heavy firepower, the appearance of more than a dozen powered suits — each as formidable as a tank — was completely beyond their imagination.

Guard posts, patrols, tight defensive layouts — all of it was designed to deal with ordinary infiltrators.
If they wanted to withstand the brutal armored firepower now before them, they would have needed to build a reinforced concrete fortress at minimum.

"This is the Chu Villa Security Team! We have unidentified attackers! The enemy is heavily armed with multiple powered exoskeletons and heavy weaponry! Requesting immediate backup! Repeat, requesting immediate backup!"

The bodyguards frantically called for reinforcements while desperately scrambling for cover.
With their current gear, charging forward would simply be suicide.

And at that moment, the enemy’s storm of gunfire had already begun raining down.

Whoosh whoosh whoosh!
Boom boom boom!

The once-quiet villa district was shattered completely by the deafening roar of gunfire and explosions…

---

On the balcony inside the villa.

"This is the ‘important matter’ you said you specifically came back to deal with?"
Chu Xiaoxiao glanced at Nie Yun.

Although the thunderous gunfire echoed not far away, she remained perfectly calm.

Are you kidding?
When the ultimate boss of Earth is standing right next to you, unless the enemy rolls up with a spaceship, there’s really nothing to worry about.
If anything, it's the enemies who should be terrified — after all, they were the ones who had caught Nie Yun’s attention!

"Yeah," Nie Yun smiled, shrugging casually.
"The other side was very cautious — they even used handwritten letters for communication. This isn't my turf, so I can’t monitor everything completely. I only noticed a few hints through satellite surveillance.
I came here today just in case — but honestly, I didn't expect them to stir up such a big scene.
"

"Who are they?" Chu Xiaoxiao asked.

"That’s exactly what I want to find out, hehe…" Nie Yun chuckled.
